There have been lots of folks
having holidays in the past few
weeks including Dave, Sharon, Jesse
and Cody Rapson along with John
Morton. They went bear hunting
near Sudbury for a week. The group
only got one bear, shot by John, but
they had a good time anyway. It was
quite warm up there that week and
they say bears are like an old dog, if
it is hot, they find the shade and stay
there.
Sharon doesn’t hunt but she is the
chief cook and bottle washer for the
guys, and thanks to mom, Beryl
Smith, the men enjoyed pies and
tarts for treats every day.
Returning from a week away near
Sudbury are Neil and Ruth Schade.
They were away to visit and attend a
special 60th wedding anniversary of
a good friend of Ruth’s. She was a
young girl they had taken into their
home and they have remained close,
like sisters, since then. They had a
wonderful visit together and nice
weather while away.
Leona and Jim Armstrong have
returned from a trip away. Leona
was on her annual sisters’ trip. The
four sisters get away together at least
once a year and this time it was to
Gananoque. Jim drove Leona and
her sister Helen, from St. Catharines
to meet Joan and Doris from Truro,
Nova Scotia in Gananoque.
Jim then travelled on to see his
friends Gord and Liz Ferguson in
Williamstown near Cornwall. He
also went to Tibbo, near Ottawa to
visit his sister Dorothy for a couple
of days before returning to pick up
Leona and Helen.
The four sisters had a great time
together and spent time going
shopping, going on a tour of the St.
Lawrence River, enjoying a theatre
play, a little time at the casino and
enjoying a spa day. Leona reports
having a wonderful time.
There was a group of 16 or so men
off to Bowling Green, Ohio for a
break. They went to see the big
tractor pull competition held there
yearly and were away about five
days. The competition is becoming a
huge event and one class alone had
72 tractor in it.
The pull begins Friday afternoon
with the finals on Sunday. The group
camped out and spent time at the
pull, visiting old friends and making
new friends at the campgrounds. The
group reports they did great PR work
for Ontario and Huron East.
The group included Don and Joel
Dalton, Gary, Larry and Chris
McNichol, Bruno, John and Adam
Braecker, Bill and Ed McClure,
Brian Alcock, Brad Stevenson, Ron
McCallum, Pat and Mike Devereaux
and Jonathon and Jason Hugill.
The Glanville bothers have
returned from their fishing trip near
Fields in Northern Ontario. Lloyd,
Les and Roy Glanville along with a
brother-in-law, had a great week
fishing, fishing and more fishing.
They report catching lots of fish,
good weather and a good time.
Jim and Evelyn Blake spent a
week holidaying near McKellar,
northeast of Parry Sound. They were
joined at the first of the week by
daughter Heather and husband
Kevin Dunbar and their two children
Dawson and Destiny for three days.
Youngest daughter Lorraine arrived
for a couple of days mid-week, then
on Thursday, daughter Lisa and
husband Chris Stevenson and
children Kyle and Larissa arrived forthe final three days of the holiday. Aside trip to Santa’s Village,Bracebridge, on the way homeexcited the children and was fun.Now it’s home and back to work forall.Returning from a trip to The Pas,Northern Manitoba, are members ofthe Demaray family. them well and enjoy the evening.

and a draw for many door prizes was
held. Lucky cards, a candy bar and a
nice social evening was enjoyed in
the decorated shed. The couple will
wed in October.
Rick and I, along with Scott and
Alicia, were invited to our daughter
Kelly and Adam’s home on Sunday
in New Hamburg. Upon arriving we
found that many of Adam’s family
were also invited for the christening
of their new “patio”.
It did not take long to realize that
the couple had a different reason for
inviting the families together. Our
beautiful daughter Kelly, is officially
engaged to Adam, and they are
planning to be wed in December of
2010. We are happy for Kelly and
Adam and it will be an exciting year
or so ahead.
Missing from the engagement
party was our daughter LeeAnn
Konarski and husband Jason.
LeeAnn was away in Calgary for the
weekend with her aunt, Karin
McDonald Calhoun. They were
having a girls’ wedding shower
weekend for Karin’s daughter
Kendra, who is planning a wedding
in early January.
They flew to Calgary on Thursday
and flew home again on Monday.
They enjoyed a visit with Kendra
and other members of the bridal
party along with friends of Kendra.
They also had a visit with cousin
Mike and wife Chrissy and children
Sydney and Brycen.
LeeAnn had the chance to visit
with Melissa Wallace Leonhardt,
who lives just outside of Calgary.
We are pleased to report that Jean
Bewley is at home again and joining
her is her daughter Brenda Raven
from Calgary. Brenda is here to
make sure Jean behaves herself in
her recovery. Reports are that Jean

UCW meetings resume
The Huron County Fastball
League held its year-end tournament
at Blyth this past weekend.
The Walton Brewers, who had
finished third in league play, had 12
wins, eight losses and one tie this
season. Unfortunately, they had a
disappointing weekend of play.
The bright spot for the team was
pitcher Scott Leonhardt, who was
presented with the top pitching
award for the league. Scott had an
earned run average of .16 , pitching
87 strikeouts, giving up seven walks,
12 hits, no homeruns, earning seven
wins and no losses. It was an
outstanding year on the mound for
Scott.
Notable stats for other Brewers
included three Brewers being in the
top 14 batters in the league. Scott
Leonhardt was fifth, Darryl Houston
eighth and Ron Strome was 14th.
Houston was also the top batter for
triples and Scott was second in
hitting doubles.
The Brewers had a good year and
had hoped to do better in the
tournament but it was not to be. The
Friday night game was against the
Goderich Gators and the Brewers
bats were hot.
The Brewers scored 13 runs in the
4 1/2 inning game to defeat the
Gators by eight runs. A homerun by
Leonhardt scoring two, a three-run
RBI by Ron Stevenson and a two
run RBI hit by Bruce Pearn
contributed to over half of the runs
in the game.
Game two for Walton was on
Saturday morning against the
second place team in the league,
Blyth. It was a well played game for
both teams with no scoring until the
fourth inning when Blyth’s C.
Stewart got on with a single and
scored home on a hit by M.
Bromley.
The Blyth team scored a second
run in the fifth when a string of
singles scored R. Clancy. The bases
were left loaded to end the inning.
Walton Brewers got one run back
when Houston hit a double and
scored home on a single by Steve
Hopf. A walk and an error loaded
the bases for Walton but
unfortunately, they were unable to
score the tying run.
Walton had hopes in the seventh,
when Strome hit a double but he was
unable to score in the 2-1 loss.
Walton’s third game was against
the Zurich Rangers. It was really
good game again for both teams
with the low score of 1-0 in favour
of the Rangers. Both teams stranded
six runners on base and the Rangers
struck out only two Walton batters.
Walton pitchers Paul
Dolmage/Leonhardt combined for
four srikeouts. Good defensive plays
by both teams made it a good game,
but ended the day for Walton
Brewers.
