At its Aug. 25 meeting, Huron East council received one appeal to the rezoning of a property in Grey that is being proposed as a storage site by Ontario Greenways. When the presentation was first made to council months ago, there was opposition from adjacent property owners. The appeal required council to receive the appeal and reaffirm its original rezoning bylaw, which it did. Several points stated as grounds for the appeal are a possibly offensive odour, property values decreasing, the quality of local water, disease, insects and rodents. *** The Listowel Co-Ed Kaos baseball team will be holding a baseball tournament in Ethel on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4. The proceeds from the tournament will go to help a family in Listowel that has three children, two of which need liver transplants. *** Chief building official Paul Josling issued 34 building permits in July for a value of over $4.4 million. The total value of building permits issued in Huron East for the first seven months of the year is $9,076,700, with 95 permits issued. At the end of July last year, Huron East had issued 110 permits for a value of nearly $15 million. *** Council approved $759,121.34 in accounts payable.
