Another area Lions Club memberhas received the prestigious MelvinJones Fellow Award.
James Schneider of the Auburn
Lions was presented with the award
at a recent meeting, much to his
surprise. “I had absolutely no idea
this was coming,” he said.
Blyth Lion John Stewart received
the recognition earlier this year.
Schneider is a charter member of
the Auburn club, having joined in
1977, and has served as treasurer.
In the community he has given his
time as a director for the Huron
County Pioneer Thresher
Association, on the board of Auburn
Memorial Hall and as a warden at
Trinity Anglican Church in Blyth.
For nine years he served as village
trustee. He is also an avid historian, readyto restore and preserve artifacts, evident in the large collection at hishome. Schneider is especially
interested in the any pieces specific
to Auburn history.
Friend and fellow Lion Ken Grigg
said the honour bestowed on
Schnieder is a humanitarian award
presented to people who have
dedicated part of their lives to
helping others. It honours Lions
Clubs International founder Melvin
Jones and is the highest form of
recognition conferred by the
foundation.
It is largely in part of the
fellowship program that the Lions
Clubs International Foundation has
met humanitarian needs world wide.
LCIF continually offers help
through the generosity of Lions andothers who have contributed to theMelvin Jones Fellowship program. As a Melvin Jones Fellow,Schneider’s name has been added to
a list of recipients electronically
shown in continuous rotation in the
LCIF Recognition Room at
International Headquarters. In a
letter to Schneider, Mahendra
Amarasuriya, board of trustees
chairperson, said the exhibit “stands
as a tribute to a growing network of
individuals who are committed to
the humanitarian objectives of
LCIF.”
“I urge you to wear you Melvin
Jones Fellow lapel pin with pride. It
represents your dedication to
making the world a better place
through humanitarian service,” said
Amarasuiya.
Schneider, who is the first Melvin
Jones Fellow in the Auburn Lions,
said he was honoured to receive the
award.
