Letter to the editorCarePartners plan medical aid trip to Peru
In a delegation to North Huron
Council, Aug. 4, Mark Beaven, who
is a Morris-Turnberry councillor, but
was not speaking on behalf of
council asked for a couple of
councillors from each municipality
to meet informally to discuss issues
on both sides of the border in a
relaxed setting.
The issues will then be brought
back to the councils for discussion.
“Over the years, I’ve witnessed
two kids in a schoolyard bickering –
“I’m taking my net and going
home,’” he said, adding, “as a
taxpayer, it costs your township
money. It costs us both money.”
“I’m not sure what happened in
the past, and I don’t want to know...
what I’m looking for tonight is a
commitment to put what happened
behind us,” Beaven said.
He said Morris-Turnberry council
has a number of outstanding issues
with North Huron council, including
proposed cemetery tariffs, municipal
drainage on the Canadian Tire
property, Belgrave water arbitration,
and a fire service agreement, and he
hopes with more direct conversation
between members of the councils,
the issues will get resolved.
Councillor Archie MacGowan and
deputy-reeve Murray Scott
volunteered to meet with two
members of Morris-Turnberry
council every two or three months.
Two local girls, Lynn Boyer,
Ethel and Brianne Wheeler,
Brussels and their Palmerston
Marlins 91 team have qualified to
represent Ontario at the Eastern
Canadians.
Two weeks ago they played in the
provincial qualifying tournament in
Palmerston winning the silver medal
which qualified them to play in the
Provincial Women’s Softball Grand
Championship this past weekend in
Ancaster.
After an 8-0 victory against
Scarborough, a 3-2 victory over
Guelph and a 5-0 victory against
Ancaster there was some excitement
as they learned they had qualified to
go on to represent Ontario in the
Midget Girls Eastern Canadian
softball championship to be held in
Ile Perrot (Quebec) from Aug. 27 -
30.
The next two games saw losses
and they brought home the bronze
medal.
Wheeler will be unable to attend
the championship as she will be
working in an orphanage in Kenya
Africa.
Well done
Lynn Boyer of Ethel, left, and Brianne Wheeler of Brussels,
along with their Palmerston Marlins 91 team won the right
to play in the Eastern Nationals. Wheeler will be unable to
play as she is working at an orphanage in Kenya. (Photo
