What a week for the Brussels U-
10 Bandits.
They started play against St.
Columban.
Knowing they had lost the week
before to this team the Bandits knew
they had to work hard.
Delayna Smith started the
Brussels scoring with Katie Roth
assisting.
But St. Columban came back and
scored to cancel it.
Going into the second half Devin
Bachert put on the heat and kicked
in a high one, with help from Nathan
McNichol.
With a minute left, St. Columban
tied it putting the game into
overtime. Five minutes later Bachert
shot one to the net, the goalie
missed and Smith was there to drive
it deep for a 3-2 overtime victory.
Justin Ford played a good game in
net.
The second game was against
Seaforth.
The Bandits had quite a few
handballs causing penalty shots, but
Bachert finally scored pushing the
game into overtime again. Ford
made some amazing stops and the
defence of McNichol, Lorren
Poland and Cody Harding were very
busy.
The squad had some close calls
but nothing worked. Ronan Jarrod,
Kortney Mitchell, Hudson Smith
and Dylan Prout had some chances,
but nothing worked.
Overtime ran out and they were
looking into a shutout. Brussels
picked five shooters. Bachert went
first and scored, then Seaforth
scored. Smith scored one and
Seaforth missed the net. Then
Poland had her turn with a big
mighty kick that earned the winning
goal.
Brussels advanced to the finals
having finished first in the B pool.
Saturday morning the kids were
keen and ready to run when they hit
the field for a game against
Wingham II.
The game was knotted at 1-1 at
half time. The Brussels goal was
scored by Bachert.
In the middle of the second half,
Brussels poured in on and scored

The Blyth Lightning U-14 player got a jump on his Seaforth opponent, moving the ball out of

This past week at the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club the
weatherman was co-operative and
the golfers came out in good
numbers to enjoy the golf and
socialize. Bruce, Mark and Greg
were out early all week and have
the course in great playing shape.
The club welcomes the new
members who took advantage of
the half-season membership sale,
Clayton Ruppel, Justin Burke, Gary
Ford, Terry Anger and Bill and
Jesse Deans.
The club was also sure glad to
see Tyler MacKay and Andrew
McBurney out hitting balls at the
driving range. Terrific guys.
The Tuesday night ladies had
their fun night called, You Put Me
In Jail. This was an alternate shot
play format and some of the ladies
did put their partner in some tough
places.
The 16 girls had lots of laughs
and play fittingly finished in a tie
between Eve Rich/Carol Oriold and
Peg Cameron/Janet Haines with
Carol and Eve being declared the
Hit Women because of aggregate
scoring. Closest to the pin winner
of the bail money was Marg
Webster.
After the golf the ladies gathered
in the clubhouse where they shared
some more laughs and enjoyed a
barbecue chicken supper.
The club welcomes home Lou.
The Wednesday morning senior
men had 20 golfers this past week.
Doug Neil finished number one. Ed
Daer was second and Gerry
Edwards third.
Our biggest winner was our
“young gun” Clayton Ruppel, just
89 years old who shot a 43.
Fantastic round Clayt.
Congratulations.
The Thursday night men were
missing the Teeswater crew this
week due to a yearly northern golf
holiday. They were truly missed but
Buff’s group still managed to have
35 golfers.
The winners were: closest to the
pin number seven, Dan McPherson;
longest drive number three, Seedy
(Neil) Bieman; longest putt number
one, Mark Foxton and number five,
father Bob Foxton; hidden scores,
44, Don Rae and 52, Doug
Rathwell.
There was a five-way tie for low
gross at 41 among Don Edgar,
Terry Anger, Cory Haytor, Rob
Harrison, Mark Foxton and Dan
McPherson.
Friday one of the local business
groups, Burnside, came out and
enjoyed a round of golf and a full-
course meal.
This Saturday, July 25 the club
will be host to the Potty Cup. A
good bunch of guys get together to
rekindle some great friendships,
play some golf and tell some
amazing stories (most of them
true).
