Go Behind the Bars at the Huron
Historic Gaol Thursday evenings
this summer. Step back in time to
1902 and join the Governor Joseph
Griffin, his wife Eleanor and his
daughter Mary as they take you on a
tour of their home and workplace.
Listen as Joseph explains his job
as gaoler and the various
responsibilities he had at the turn of
the century. Explore the jail cells and
workrooms as Mary shows you the
life of the prisoners from the
perspective of the gaol matron.
Marvel as Eleanor shows you her
new home and the beauty of the
house compared to the simplicity of
the gaol. Explore and experience the
history as you are led on this
theatrical tour by historical figures
from the gaol’s past.
Tours will take place every
Thursday evening during July and
August. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.
Tour begins at 7:30 p.m. Regular
admission rates apply. (Adults $5,
children $3.50).
A limited number of tickets are
available for each evening. Stop in to
pick up tickets ahead of time, call to
reserve your tickets, or simply come
on your chosen evening.
The Historic Gaol is open daily
throughout the summer for you to
visit and tour the Gaol on your own.
Regular hours are Monday to
Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and
Sunday 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Huron Historic Gaol is
located at the corner of Victoria St.
North (Hwy. 21) and Gloucester
Terrace in Goderich.
