On June 19 the Blyth Barons
played Belmore away.
The game was scoreless until the
bottom of the second when Belmore
scored two runs on two hits to take a
2-0 lead. Belmore picked up another
run in the third.
The Barons came alive in the
fourth. Mike McDonald then Chris
Stewart stroked a double. Mike Kerr
tripled and a single by Shawn
Bromley scored two runs and
narrowed the Belmore lead.
Belmore scored one run on two
hits in the bottom half to take it
back. Nothing changed until the
sixth when a walk to Stewart,
followed by a double by Kerr and a
single by Bromley brought one more
across for the Barons.
But Belmore scored one on one
hit. In the seventh the Barons
brought one run across on hits by
Ryan Clancy, McDonald and
Stewart. But that was all they could
manage and Belmore won 5-4.
June 26 the Goderich Orioles
played the first game of a double-
header against the Barons in Blyth.
The Orioles took an early lead
with two hits in the inning.
The Barons got those back on a
single by Stewart and triple by Kerr.
Sandwiched in the middle was a
Trevor Seip walk. After a scoreless
second the Orioles scored one run on
three hits to jump back into the lead.
The Barons came back in the
fourth. Bromley, McDonald and
Darcey Cook all ripped singles as
the Barons bats exploded. The
onslaught was highlighted by a Kerr
homerun. Neither side could cash in
any more runners and Blyth won 7-
3. In the second game the Barons
played Belmore.
In the bottom of the first Barons
scored five runs on singles by
McDonald and Stewart and
homeruns by Seip and Bromley.
In the second they added another
on a single by Dean Wheeler and a
triple by McDonald.
Belmore scored one run in the

The Blyth Thunder U-14 soccer
team hosted its final game of the
regular season against Seaforth I on
July 9. The last time these teams met
Seaforth had snuck by with a 2-1
win, so an exciting and competitive
game of soccer was sure to be seen.
Blyth pounded many shots at their
opponents’ net, but couldn’t get the
ball past the Seaforth goalie. Blyth’s
keeper Wyatt Bearss did a great job
in net and made many saves to keep
his team in the game.
Seaforth was able to pour on the
pressure enough to squeeze in the
one and only goal of the first half.
Tyler Boven stood strong and did a
great job covering the Blyth net in
the second half. Murray Dale booted
the ball up the field to Jan Paul
VanDorp who ran in and scored to
tie the game.
Seaforth scored again to maintain
their lead in the match.
Joel Pizzati stole the ball away
from his opponents and passed the
ball to JP VanDorp, who scored his
second goal of the night. Dale
earned his second assist of the game
and placed the ball deep into
Seaforth’s end. Derek deBoer picked
it up, maneuvered it around a few of
his opponents to score.
Seaforth was able to take
advantage of a corner kick and
lobbed the ball right into Blyth’s net.
There were only minutes left in the
game when JP VanDorp gained
control of the ball and broke away
from the play to score his hattrick.
Both teams fought for the ball, but
the final score was a 4-3 victory for
Blyth.
Blyth players should be
recognized for their excellent
teamwork and for never giving up,
said coaches. They came from
behind and kept fighting for control
of the ball; they played with great
soccer skills and determination, to
win this game.
This ends the season for the U-14
boys.
Blyth Thunder has had a very
productive season as a team and has
really learned to play well together,
said coaches.
On July 16 they will have an
exhibition game against the Blyth U-
16 girls before heading into the year-
end tournament in Brussels July 22-
25.
