BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, July 12 were Mary Lou
and John Stewart. Ushering were
Cliff Snell, David Onn, Mary Lou
and John Stewart.
The call to worship was in the
form of an anthem, The Man
Upstairs, by the choir followed by
the offering and the offertory
prayer.
The first hymn, Come Let Us
Sing, was followed by the prayer of
approach. The gospel reading was
from Mark 6: 14-29 and the hymn,
Like a Rock was sung.
Rev. Gary Clark’s message to the
adults was, Dead End. There are
many stories of dead ends in the
Bible, he said. One is John the
Baptist. John had told Herod that it
was not lawful that he marry his
brother’s wife, so Herod had him put
in prison. Herod threw a big
birthday bash for himself and
invited all his friends. The daughter
of Herodias come to dance and
Herod was pleased and asked her
what she would like, up to half of his
kingdom.
Bring a child she asked her mother
and she said to ask for John the
Baptist’s head on a platter.
Herod didn’t want to look like a
fool in front of his friends so he
beheaded John the Baptist.
Dead end choices often lead to
death. People don’t cross the road
when the red light is on so they
should listen to the teaching of God
when they come to a dead end.
Rev. Clark challenged everyone
that the next time they come to a
stop sign they ask themselves if they
are on the right path of life. If not
they should turn and not go down
that dead end road.
The next hymn, In Suffering Love
was followed by the prayers of the
community and the singing of The
Lord’s Prayer.
The last hymn was God Be With
You ’Til We Meet Again.

Continued from page 1firefighters. “They are verysupportive, a great group.”Black is aware that there are somein the community keeping a wary eye on this change. “There is a feeling for some that the
sky is falling, but such is not the
case.”
He said that as the two boards
cease to exist, the same will hold
true about the current chiefs’ jobs.
“What job they’ll have is yet to be
seen. There will be a structure, we’re
just not sure what it is. I guess this
isn’t so much amalgamation, as
evolution.”
One thing he is certain of, is that
the best fire protection for the area is
the primary goal. Fire protection
will be offered as a service to other
municipalities once the structure and
other elements are determined. “Butregardless of how long that takes, those areas will still beprotected.”Black speaks with nothing butrespect for the two departments, noting his intent that the heritage of
the departments remain, “by nature
of the fact of the firefighters that
will hopefully be involved. It is
definitely going to be their
department.”
Plans that have been in the
works for the future, such as a new
firehall for Blyth will proceed, he
said.
“One thing that has been very
important is how strongly council
and administration are behind
the fire services. There is no
question those kinds of things will
continue to go ahead.”
