BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, July 12 were Mary Lou and John Stewart. Ushering were Cliff Snell, David Onn, Mary Lou and John Stewart. The call to worship was in the form of an anthem, The Man Upstairs, by the choir followed by the offering and the offertory prayer. The first hymn, Come Let Us Sing, was followed by the prayer of approach. The gospel reading was from Mark 6: 14-29 and the hymn, Like a Rock was sung. Rev. Gary Clark’s message to the adults was, Dead End. There are many stories of dead ends in the Bible, he said. One is John the Baptist. John had told Herod that it was not lawful that he marry his brother’s wife, so Herod had him put in prison. Herod threw a big birthday bash for himself and invited all his friends. The daughter of Herodias come to dance and Herod was pleased and asked her what she would like, up to half of his kingdom. Bring a child she asked her mother and she said to ask for John the Baptist’s head on a platter. Herod didn’t want to look like a fool in front of his friends so he beheaded John the Baptist. Dead end choices often lead to death. People don’t cross the road when the red light is on so they should listen to the teaching of God when they come to a dead end. Rev. Clark challenged everyone that the next time they come to a stop sign they ask themselves if they are on the right path of life. If not they should turn and not go down that dead end road. The next hymn, In Suffering Love was followed by the prayers of the community and the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn was God Be With You ’Til We Meet Again. With just a few weeks before Blyth’s first-ever Canadian Blood Services blood donor clinic, people will have an opportunity to learn their blood type prior to donating. On Tuesday, July 21, between 4-8 p.m. there will be a blood type clinic at the former municipal office council chambers, at the corner of Queen and Dinsley Streets in Blyth. Anyone between the ages of 17 and 60 can find out their blood type, free of charge. They can then make their appointment for the donor clinic to be held at the Blyth arena, Wednesday, July 29 from 2-8 p.m. The clinics are being sponsored by the Blyth and Hullett Masonic Lodges and the Blyth Fire Department. If you are unable to make the July 21 clinic, but would like to donate you can book an appointment by calling 1-888-2-donate (1-888-236- 6283) or visit www.blood.ca Continued from page 1firefighters. “They are verysupportive, a great group.”Black is aware that there are somein the community keeping a wary eye on this change. “There is a feeling for some that the sky is falling, but such is not the case.” He said that as the two boards cease to exist, the same will hold true about the current chiefs’ jobs. “What job they’ll have is yet to be seen. There will be a structure, we’re just not sure what it is. I guess this isn’t so much amalgamation, as evolution.” One thing he is certain of, is that the best fire protection for the area is the primary goal. Fire protection will be offered as a service to other municipalities once the structure and other elements are determined. “Butregardless of how long that takes, those areas will still beprotected.”Black speaks with nothing butrespect for the two departments, noting his intent that the heritage of the departments remain, “by nature of the fact of the firefighters that will hopefully be involved. It is definitely going to be their department.” Plans that have been in the works for the future, such as a new firehall for Blyth will proceed, he said. “One thing that has been very important is how strongly council and administration are behind the fire services. There is no question those kinds of things will continue to go ahead.” July 27 - 31 9 am - 12 noon at Blyth Christian Reformed Church Blyth Community Gospel Light Vacation Bible School Completed JK - Gr. 6 Where kids build their lives on the rock: Jesus! • Bible Stories • Crafts • Skits • Games • Songs Contact: Lorna Fraser 519-523-9687 Ella Ives 519-523-9514 83189 Scott Line, Blyth 519-523-9456 Jack & Sylvia Nonkes OPEN daily 9-5 Closed Sundays Spring Breezes greenhouses 1/2 price sale continues on beautiful healthy baskets, containers, annuals, perennials, etc. • refresh your container by pulling out bad plants and replacing with fresh ones • fill an empty garden space quickly with generous-sized annuals or vegetables • baskets and containers can be put anywhere, and are a fantastic deal right now.
