The Citizen, 2009-07-16, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2009.
Holiday time seems to go so much
faster than normal time – maybe
because you know that it is time
limited, and so you expect more –
places to go, people to see. Any way
you look at it holiday time always
slips away.
Jeff, Nicole, Erin and Emma
Boynton were in our area for a few
days with Dawn and Bruce Johnston
and girls catching up on life in
Alberta and here. The rest of the
time was spent in London withGrannie Jeanette where conversionto child centre was made with ease. The Maitland in Brussels was abusy spot on Sunday afternoon –canoes, paddle boats and motorboats were all enjoying the beautifulafternoon.Howard and Alice had invitedtheir church friends to Martin’s
Landing to enjoy the river, so a little
extra traffic. Others were fishing at
favourite spots from their boats,
some from the dam.
The one advantage of all the rain
we’ve had, is that we were able to
canoe farther up the river on Sunday
than normal for this time of year.
Alma Watson was celebrating
birthdays with her kids on Friday
night. Mary was born on July 10
following brother John who had
been born two years earlier on July
12. Millbank was the destination to
meet and share food, stories andlaughter and another year, a goodone of course, has passed. We were doing St. John duty at theBlyth Festival on Saturday and reallyenjoyed The Mail Order Bride. Ofcourse no recall at all of the firstversion from 1989 so it was justanother well done play. Lookingforward to all the others.
Take advantage of all the neat stuff
that happens only in summer for us –
regular and varied music in Seaforth
on Thursday evenings as well as in
Goderich on Sunday evenings as
well as all the things we have to see
and visit. It really isn’t necessary to
leave home to enjoy summer.
Take care of yourself and wash
your hands lots.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It has been a quiet week at the
Brussels Legion Branch with no
meetings, no dinners and not many
Comrades stopping by.
The elimination tickets are at the
Branch as well as the sign-up sheet
for a shift at the ball park food
booth. Lots of times for lots of shifts
are available.
\If Comrades cannot get into the
Branch to sign up, call and Sandra
can give you a choice of times.
Branch hours are 4 - 6 p.m.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had a good turnout. In first were
Deanna and George with 89 points.
Two teams tied with 76 points so
shared second- and third-place prize
money. They were Len and Betty
Archambault and Jean Bewley and
Elunid McNair.
It has happened before and it
happened again this weekend, a
three-way tie for last place of the
day. The teams that earned 46 points
were Ariel Woods and Hazel
Matheson, Janet and Helen, and
Helen Warwick and Vera Schmidt.
The lone-hand prizes went to Gloria
Love and Bill Albert.
The pair of Comrades who
attended the District Golf
competition last week report that
they had a great day and great fun,
but not great enough to advance to
further competition. Comrades Bob
Richardson and Eric Ross played at
the Scenic City Golf Course in
Owen Sound. They shot a combined
168 and 160 was the cut off. Good
try guys.
The Sunday night dance had a
crowd of over 90 people out to enjoy
the music of the John Heaman
band.
The fundraising committee for the
community event calendar is
working hard to gather the necessary
information for the project. The
many groups, churches and
organizations have been contacted
with great support for the project.
We are producing a calendar for the
2010 year featuring the community
events of Brussels, Walton,
Cranbrook, Ethel, Belgrave and
Bluevale plus a few extra.
We hope we have contacted all the
groups in the area, but if we have
missed yours and you have an event
planned for next year and would like
it included, please call Jo-Ann at
519-887-6570 or 519-887-6751 and
leave a message and I will get back
to you.

Thank You
Abi and I have separate Relay for Life
teams, but we have been planning together
ways to raise money for our teams. We
decided to hold a BBQ on the main street
and a golf tournament.
We have been working our team members
fairly hard, so we would like to say thank you
from the bottom of our hearts for helping us,
supporting us and just being there for us, as
we fight against cancer.
We would like to thank all of you who came
out to our BBQ on main street. It was a great
success even though the rain came on
strong. Also much thanks to the people who
donated prizes and food to our fundraiser.
This past weekend was our golf tournament
held out at Dave and Karen Smith’s in
Cranbrook.
The rain came again but even harder, but
thankfully it cleared up to be a spectacular
day. There were 21 teams of golfers. Each
team of 4 people golfed 9 holes, playing 2
man best ball, and ended the day with BBQ
beef on a bun. It was fun had by all. A big
special thank you to Dave and Karen Smith
for donating their golf course to us for the
afternoon. Hopefully some day in the near
future we can all sit back and say that we
helped find the cure for cancer. Thanks
again to all of you. Melinda Tenpas and Abi
Corbett.
