The Citizen, 2009-06-25, Page 21A Wingham man was given a 30-day intermittent sentence afterpleading guilty in Wingham courtJune 18 to assault causing bodily
harm.
Crown Attorney Bob Morris told
Judge R.G.E Hunter that Randy
Hines of Wingham punched the
victim repeatedly in the face and
body, which occurred on Nov. 9,
2008. Only after the altercation was
broken up by a neighbour did Hines
leave, telling the victim that the next
person coming to visit him would be
bigger.
The victim sustained two black
eyes and several cuts to the face.
Duty counsel Grant MacKinnon
said this incident was a “blip on an
otherwise good life.” He said Hines
has contributed to the community and
does take responsibility in the matter.
He also added that Hines was in line
for a job which would have paid him
in excess of $100,000 per year.
However, due to the charges, he has
since lost that job and has had to
return to one that pays substantially
less.Hines will serve his time onweekends. He was placed on 12-months probation. He is to have no
contact with the victim and is now
under a weapons prohibition.
UTTERING THREATS
Kyle Dorscht of Wingham pled
guilty to threatening to commit
bodily harm, stemming from an
incident on March 8, 2009.
Morris said the accused told the
victim he would take her into the
bathroom and slit her throat and that
Dorscht said he would take drugs
before he did it, so he wouldn’t be
found responsible.
Defense counsel said Dorscht is
taking counselling. He has earlier
convictions for assault in 2004 and
2005.
Dorscht was given 18 months of
probation and is not allowed to have
any contact with the victim and is
now under a weapons prohibition.
BREAK AND ENTER
Two men were found guilty of
charges stemming from a break and
enter incident in Brussels earlier thisyear.Philip Leger of Port Elgin will haveto spend 45 days in jail and pay
restitution stemming from an incident
in Brussels.
Morris said that earlier in the
evening of Dec. 26 a group of three
people as well as the property-owner
were drinking. After leaving, the
three returned, broke down the door
and stole several bottles of beer and a
bottle of Canadian Club whiskey.
Morris said that Leger was one of
two men entering the house, while
another man, waited in the car.
He had received a fine in 2007 for
another break-and-enter incident.
Leger will serve his sentence on
weekends and he must pay $100 per
month towards the cost of the door
until it is paid off. While serving
time, he will remain on probation. He
is to have no contact with the owner
of the house and he will now be under
a weapons prohibition.
Richard Haskins, who remained in
the vehicle, pled guilty to failing to
comply. Defense attorney Lynn Johnstonsaid that while Haskins had a nocontact order, he had needed to speak
with the victim regarding lifting the
order conditionally.
Johnston said the two were good
friends and Haskins, while he knew it
was wrong, took it upon himself to
communicate with his friend.
Haskins was fined a total of $750,
$250 per count.
IMPAIRED DRIVING
Bruce Hetsler of Blyth will be
sentenced on Sept. 17 after pleading
guilty to impaired driving. The
incident was Hetsler’s fifth drunk
driving-related charge since 1974.
Hetsler has been without his
license since Oct. 19, which is when
the incident took place.
Hetsler was found in his car, which
ended up on its side in a ditch on
Clyde Line and was said by Morris to
be combative when offered
assistance. He refused help from the
Emergency Medical Services.
According to the report, Hetsler said
to officers upon arriving that hewasn’t hurt, just tired. Upon beingremoved from the car, the report saidHetsler was very unsteady on his feet.
Hunter reiterated that Hetsler is
“off the road as of now.”
CARELESS DRIVING
Blake Hesselwood of Blyth pled
guilty to careless driving which
resulted in six months of probation
and a total of $1,000 in fines,
stemming from an incident on Sept.
6, 2008.
In addition, Hesselwood will only
be allowed to drive to and from work.
