The Citizen, 2009-06-25, Page 8SportsPAGE 8. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 25, 2009. The Blyth Thunder U-14s hosted Bayfield at Sparling’s field for a great game of soccer on June 15. Blyth came out strong and didn’t event allow their opponents a shot on net in the first half of the game. In the second half Bayfield did manager to take a few shots, but keeper Tyler Boven earned a shutout. Connor Wilts got the first goal of the night with an assist from Robbie Gordon. Jan Paul VanDorp, Hunter Broda, Trystan Weber and Wyatt Bearss each earned a goal. Derek deBoer had a fantastic game, scoring four goals. JP VanDorp earned four assists, Weber earned two, Gordon and Leendert VanDorp also earned an assist. The Thunder played a very defensive game really limiting their opponents shots on net, said coaches. Murray Dale, Zach Drost, Damion Greidanus and Leendert VanDorp were the main defensive line and did a great job clearing the ball out of their end. Blyth came out to play and really worked hard as a team, winning the soccer match 9-0. During this game the Thunder worked on their passing skills and this helped them to earn this win. The Thunder travels to Wingham on June 25 for their next game. The Blyth Lightning U-12 soccer team had a very exciting game against Wingham Chiropractic June 16. The game started off at a fast pace with Wingham testing the goalie Matt Terpstra early in the match. Lightning players Mackenzie Nesbitt and Dalton Carey teamed up to start the scoring in the first half. Carey assisted Nesbitt for the first goal, then later in the half Nesbitt assisted Carey's goal. Wingham came storming back in the second half scoring four times to take the lead. Blyth got their offense in gear to test the Wingham goalie. Terpstra scored with Carey assisting once again. Blyth was able to tie the game when Luke Forbes scored from a nice play set up by brother Logan Forbes and Matt Terpsra. Lightning goalie Brandon Marshall did well to keep the game tied but Wingham broke the tie in the last minutes of the game to go ahead. Time ran out before Blyth could respond. Wingham took the win 5 - 4. Up and over The U-14 girls in Brussels hosted Goderich in recent soccer action. Despite their best efforts the team came up short losing 3-0. Devon Bachert led the offence, scoring two, while Wyatt Ducharme and Delayna Smith each netted one. On the ball The player controls the ball and keeps his opponents at bay while making his way from the sidelines. His team, The Blyth U-14 Thunder took on Bayfield last week and came away with a resounding 9-0 victory.
