President for the month, Vera Penfound opened the meeting with readings, Things to be Thankful For, The Rich and the Poor and Inspiration. This was followed with prayer. Ila Cunningham gave the treasurer’s report and Eileen McClinchey read the minutes. The Club members were divided into two teams and are to save their pennies until June, 2010. The losing team is to entertain the winning team. The club will take the summer off and the next meeting is Sept. 21, at the home of Betty Archambault, when Ila Cunningham will be president for the month, Deanna Snell will provide the lunch and Eileen McClinchey the program. Christena Gross was in charge of the program for the day and had a reading, The Garden for your Daily Living and contest, Grandmother’s Garden which was followed by a quiz. Dorothy served a lunch of cookies and squares, tea and coffee. After a social half hour the club members left for home. On Sunday, June 14 the Walkerburn Club celebrated its 90th anniversary with a potluck dinner in the Auburn Community Hall. Over 40 people attended, including some from Atwood, Hensall and Kippen as well as the surrounding areas. Mrs. Penfound, June’s president was chairperson for the event. She opened the afternoon with a brief history of Walkerburn which was named in 1859 after Walkerburn Scotland. The club was started on July 19, 1919 to help the Red Cross. She also read a poem about Walkerburn. Lloyd McClinchey asked the blessing. During the meal, several prizes were given out. Winners were Brenda Rutledge, Brenda Scholl, Brenda Parker and Don and Ruth Dewar. Little Mackayle Dixon won the prize for the youngest person present. There was a display of quilts that the members have made, photo albums, and some history of the community on display for everyone to look at. Also on display was the quilt they have donated to the Alzheimer Society for a fundraiser. Tickets are to be drawn on Dec. 17. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting with friends and neighbours. Walkerburn Club celebrates Keith and Joyce VanCamp of Cayley, Alberta were guests for a few days at the home of Joyce’s parents, Jim and Mary Hunter. They also visited with other relatives and friends including Keith’s mother Gladys Van Camp and Harold and Nancy Jardin. The community extends sincere sympathy to Jim and Mary Hunter and family on the loss of Mary’s brother Ross Durham. Knox Sunday school anniversary and barbecue will be held on Sunday, June 21. The Sunday school is working hard to prepare for the Father’s Day service.Similar to previous years theservice will be a combination ofperformances by the young people.No one wants to spoil the surprise,but there will be a canoe involvedand a lot of fun.Mark this special day on yourcalendar and feel free to tell your neighbours. There will be a chicken barbecue to follow the service. Gladys Van Camp, Allan and Georgette Campbell were guests for a few days at the home of Dorothy Ansley. There were nine tables of shoot in play on Friday, June 12 at the Belgrave Community Centre. The winners were: high pink card, Dorothy Carter; second high pink card, Verna Currie; most shoots, Jane Grasby; high white card, Ron Taylor; second high white card, Joann MacDonald; most shoots, Jim Hunter. The next shoot is Friday, June 26 at 1:30 p.m. What have we here?
