Blyth Thunder U14s travelled to
Clinton to play their weekly soccer
game on Thursday, June 11. The
Thunder and Flash met for the first
time this season for a great soccer
match.
Clinton gained ball control right at
the top of the game and Blyth wasn’t
prepared. They let the ball slip
through their defence and were
scored on in the first minute of the
game.
Blyth pulled it together and made
some nice shots at the net, but
couldn’t get the ball past the
Clinton’s keen defensive line and
keeper. Goalie Hunter Broda made a
great save, but Clinton forwards
were right there and scored on the
rebound shot just before the first
period ended.
Thunder took advantage of a
corner kick and Leendert VanDorp
set the ball right in front of Clinton’s
net. Forward Derek deBoer shot the
ball.
The play went back and forth with
both teams making aggressive
challenges for the ball, even
stopping the game a few times.
Clinton earned a penalty shot and
scored the final goal of the game to
win 3-1.
“Although they lost, they played a
strong game,” the coach said. “We
were very pleased with their effort.”
