Members arrived early to enjoy coffee and muffins and meet Rev. Dr. Peter Kugba-Nyande and his wife Janieh. Rev. Peter was overwhelmed by the size of the church, not expecting it to be so large. Sunday’s service was led by lay worship leader Gloria Wilbee. Her message for the children during the time for the young at heart was entitled, We Hear God’s Word. She told the children about Trinity Sunday and how it represents the three – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. She also told the group the story about the wind. Fruit trees grown in an area that sheltered them from any wind made the trees very weak. The branches would break when the fruit matured. The trees needed the wind to help them grow strong just as people need God’s strength and presence to help them grow strong. Gloria read the scripture. Her reflection entitled, Life That Bubbles Over (Trinity), encompassed the story of how God created man out of love and when man turned away from God, he sent his Son to remind man of God’s love for all. When man turned on his Son and Jesus was crucified, God sent the Spirit to raise Jesus, to sit on his right hand. Gloria ended her reflection with the solo Somewhere (A Place For Us). Keith Wilbee and Jim McDonald accepted the offering. Gloria invited Rev. Peter to give the commissioning and benediction. It was then off to Bluevale United for service and to meet the full house congregation. This week is the anniversary service at 7 p.m. There is no morning service on Sunday. Special music will be provided by Jennifer White, a Celtic harpist and Robert McMaster. The Father’s Day service is June 21. Patty Banks and the worship committee will lead the service. If you have pictures of your dad when he was young, you are to let Patty know. A Gospel concert Elvis style is the major fundraiser for the Walton/Bluevale pastoral charge also on Father’s Day. What a great way to celebrate with Dad. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2009. PAGE 9. Carl and Tab McCallum were the hosts for the 55th wedding anniversary celebration for her grandparents, Merle and Gloria Glanville. Around 50 or so family members gathered at their home to enjoy a social afternoon and meal provided by the family. Congratulations to the Glanvilles. There was a family celebration held at the Seaforth Legion for the occasion of Bert Bachert’s 90th birthday. About 100 family members to enjoyed the afternoon and a potluck meal. Bert farmed in the Walton area on Moncrieff Road then lived near Brussels before moving from the area. His family includes Keith and Janet, Dale and Starr, Ken and Charlotte, Dan and Mary and Kathy and Ron Rosenberg. They had a wonderful day together. Happy birthday Bert. Congratulations to a former Walton girl on having a book published recently. Keri (Bachert) Orozco, daughter of Dale and Starr Bachert has published a book entitled Quest of Freedom. She was interviewed by Phil Main on CKNX this past week. Keri was described as a person that had a passion for creativity. Many of the Walton area people will remember that she is a wonderful artist and has a small studio in her Ilderton home. Keri is married to Bernie and has two children. Her book is about finding your own path from reading the Bible. It is about not having to follow theman-made rules of church life and tolive your life for your purpose thatyou believe you were created for. Keri’s book is available atChapters and other book stores andall proceeds from the sale of thebooks go to Missions in Nicaragua. Information can be obtained at www.keriorozco.webs.com. Congrats to Keri on her achievement. Our condolences are sent to Bonnie and Lorne Glanville and family on the loss of Bonnie’s mother, Isabella Edwards. I had the opportunity to go to the theatre last week with my daughter Lee Ann Konarski. We went to the Tom Patterson Theatre in Stratford, which is on the river by the arena and is a smaller venue theatre. The play was entitled Bartholomew Fair and although performed on a smaller stage, there were over 40 performers involved. It was a story about the “enormities” or crimes and confusions of a disreputable English fair. A story that covers food, drink, song, trinkets, crime and sex for sale by ruffians, Puritans and aristocrats. It was comedic at times and at times a little hard to follow, but it made for an interesting night out. A birthday celebration was held for Yvonne Knight last week. Thirteen women gathered at the Fireside Café to enjoy lunch. They then went to Marion Smith’s to have cake and ice-cream and enjoy a social afternoon. Get-well wishes to Bill Stephenson who is recovering from surgery. Congratulations to George and Marie Blake who celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past week. The Walton Hall had a busy week with a couple of events. Tracey McKee held an open house for home-based businesses at the Hall on Thursday evening. There were persons representing Pampered Chef, Tupperware, and Barmy Techjust to name a few.Hall board members Judy Lee andJo-Ann McDonald spent Saturdaymorning cleaning up the flowerbedsaround the Hall and trimmed thegrass. Sunday, a birthday celebration forIvan Shannon was held at the Hall. Family and friends gathered to celebrate his 90th. They had an enjoyable afternoon together. Saturday evening there were many Walton folks attending the buck and doe in Seaforth, for Scott Henderson and Erin Murray. Scott is the son of Murray and Carol Henderson and the grandson of Ian Wilbee. We had a two-fold reason to attend; besides knowing the Wilbees, I am a first- cousin of Erin’s mother. It was a nice crowd and the wedding is planned for October. Campbell and Edith Wey had their family home during the weekend. Some were expected and some were a surprise. Larry and Dena came from Pittsburgh and Debbie from Port Colborne. Doug, Heidi, Tess and Duncan dropped in from Waterloo as did Carla from Cambridge. They even had grandson Cameron Kale from Calgary. It was a wonderful surprise andthey celebrated a couple of familybirthdays while there. Congratulations are in order forsome Walton folks who werewinners at the 38th annual BrusselsLion’s Club elimination draw. Johnand Susan Van Vliet won $50,couples Leslie and Yvonne Knight and Jack and Mary Anna Ryan each won $75. Gillis Farms won $100 and the big winners of the night were Gerry and Thea Rijkhoff, taking home the cheque for $4,000. I’d say Walton did very well in the winning department. Celebrating birthdays this past week were Scott Dalton, Jillian Houston, Jacob McGavin, Sharon Stephenson, Jim Campbell, Bonnie Glanville, Chris Humphries, Rob McClure, Trisha McClure, Roger Humphries and Shawna O’Neill.
