The pump-house for the Belgrave
water system will go from eyesore
to garden-like setting following a
landscaping project approved by
Morris-Turnberry council.
At their June 2 meeting
councillors chose between two
proposals submitted by Solid
Ground Landscaping of Belgrave,
that will reseed the site and plant
shrubs and trees.
They chose a plan which will see
the site get six spruce trees, other
shrubs and mulch and two raised
flower beds after new topsoil has
been added and the grass replanted
and fertilized. Cost of the project is
$4,600 plus taxes.
Nancy Michie, administrator
clerk-treasurer, told council there is
money in the water budget to
complete the project.
Pat Hunking invited the members
of the Belgrave Evening Group to
meet in her new apartment in Blyth
for their meeting, June 2. Nancy
Folkard’s group was in charge of the
meeting and Nancy thanked Pat for
hosting the meeting and welcomed
everyone present.
Mrs. Ruth Jardin was a guest for
the meeting.
Laura Johnston’s worship theme
was, To Seek Beauty. After a
scripture and a hymn, her
meditation encouraged people to not
miss the beauty around them,
especially the flowers, birds and
people. Look past appearances and
look at the inner beauty of those
around. God sees inner selves as
well.
She closed with prayer.
Muriel Coultes gave the
secretary’s and treasurer’s reports
which were approved. The roll call
was answered by naming one thing
you hope to do this summer.
Mrs. Hunking reported she had
sent four cards.
Mrs. Folkard’s theme for her
program was Here Comes the Sun.
She had sunflowers with her, and
read a story which told of the
different kinds of sunflowers, large,
small, with or without pollen and
also the variety of colours they can
be. She talked about the advantages
to spending time in a garden. A
garden is good for a community,
with things to share, but also people
need to protect themselves from the
sun.
She read various articles of
different types of camping.
She mentioned the Vacation Bible
School at Belgrave, Aug. 17-21, 9
a.m. to noon. All children are
welcome.
She gave a list of items needed for
crafts, large and small kleenex
boxes, bar of soap boxes, toothpaste
boxes, both sizes of plastic pop
bottles and white cotton gardening
gloves. There is a box at the church
for donations.
The Observer has an article of a
vacation in Guatemala.
Mrs. Folkard offered many new
and interesting ways to spend the
summer, and wished everyone a safe
and healthy summer.
Plans were made for the summer
party that celebrates those over 80.
If you know of anyone who has
recently celebrated their 80th
birthday, let Laura Johnston know.
The date was set for Tuesday, July
28 at 2 p.m. in the church.
The next regular meeting of the
Evening Group will be Tuesday,
Sept. 8, Group 1, program; Group 2,
worship; and Group 3, lunch.
Muriel Coultes served lunch as
everyone visited around the kitchen
table.
