BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Blyth United Church held its
church service on Sunday, June 7 at
Camp Menesetung with the Sunday
school leading the service. Cappy
Onn and Gil Garrett, Jessica and
Grant Sparling favoured the
congregation with music while the
Sunday school children marched
into church singing, He’s Got the
Whole World in his Hands.
Lorna Fraser led the worship and
welcomed everyone to the camp
service. Deb Hakkers drew
everyone’s attention to the
announcements in the bulletin.
Lorna spoke on all the things the
Sunday school had done during the
year and the congregation
joined them in the songs they
had learned throughout the year.
Some of these were Here We are
Together, Deep and Wide, Come
Follow Me and Only a Boy Named
David.
Cappy, Grant and Jessica played a
selection on their violins while the
offering was being received.
The offering was given to the
camp to help with expenses.
Lorna gave the children their
awards and certificates for attending
Sunday school. Lorna read the 23rd
Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer was
sung along with the children doing
the actions.
The blessing “All I Really Need is
a Song In My Heart, Food In My
Belly and Love In My Family was
sung by all.
A potluck lunch followed the
service.
North Huron reeve Neil Vincent
sought support from his county
council June 3 in the battle to keep
local television alive.
Vincent said he, along with
Goderich councillor Deb Shewfelt,
attended the Save Local TV rally in
London May 23. He had postcards
and asked “each and every one” of
the councillors to write the federal
heritage minister and the CRTC. It
would help support the message of
the importance of getting local
information to the people, he said.
Vincent said a petition is
circulating asking that the CRTC
allow royalties to be charge to cable.
“This would allow a number of local
stations to exist.”
“I felt it was important to get there
and support this,” said Shewfelt.
The county will send a letter of
support.
