HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-06-04, Page 11By Rev. Dave WoodHuron Chapel EvangelicalMissionary Church“Let’s just see what happens” or“Don’t worry, it will all work out”
are all too often the standard lines
employed on my behalf.
You see, my wife is a planner. She
likes to make sure that all the angles
are considered and the details ironed
out while I on the other hand, am
closer and more in tune to nature and
tend to go with the flow. Now tell
me, who is right? Her way takes a sit
down and you have to get out the
maps and make phone calls and
think. Mine … hop in the car and
head out on a wonderful experience
of exploration.
What does it matter if we forget a
few things? Who really cares if we
have to sleep in the car because
every room for the next 50 miles is
booked? Is it really that important to
know where we are going?
I admit it. After 25 years of
married life she is right. It is better to
sit down and make a few plans. It is
less taxing and easier on the nervesto know where it is that you areactually going. I really must agree with thisbecause I actually planned our
summer vacation in February! It
feels good to have a plan and know
where you are going. There is
something about sitting down and
counting the cost that leaves one in a
state of tranquility. Jesus told a story in Luke 14 abouta guy who was going to build atower. The point being: before youbuild you sit down and figure out
how much it is going to cost you so
you can see if you have enough to
actually complete it.
As an aside, this principle should
be considered and the credit card
should not be part of the equation. Jesus was talking about the priceof being His disciple. It is going tocost us! His way is the way of thecross and the cross calls us to
sacrifice and in a society that is
inundated with self-focus and self-
pleasure this message is not only
misunderstood but also unpopular.
The Master pulls no punches. He
is clear that the way of the Kingdomis costly and if we would follow, weneed to sit down and count the cost.We need to sit down and make someplans.
Aren’t you glad that the Father sat
down and made some plans? He
knew the cost, understood the
sacrifice and initiated the plan.
To follow Jesus, have you sat
down and counted the cost?

of around 60 women from all the
various WMS groups.
President Joanne Lennips
constituted the meeting with prayer.
Rev. Peggy Kinsmen welcomed
everyone.
Marion and Norma Raynard led
the group in a lively sing-song.
The worship was led by the
Brussels group.
Rev. Terry Samuel entertained
with special music.
Erlma Haldenby, representative
from council, shared the disturbing
facts about human trafficking. She
encouraged members to sign a
petition to make a change in a Bill to
not just make human trafficking
illegal but amend it to give a jail
term.
Guest speakers were Rev. Susan
Samuel, minister from Kincardine
and her husband, Rev. Terry Samuel
who spoke about their educational
trip to Taiwan.
They shared how the Presbyterian
