The Auxiliary to Wingham andDistrict Hospital held its final bridgeparty for 2008-09 at the MasonicLodge on May 11 with 12 tables inplay.Verna Steffler, president,welcomed the players and thanked them for their continued support to the local hospital. Desserts were served by the social committee and everyone was ready to embark on an evening of bridge. Players from Lucknow and Wingham have been playing since November and have raisedapproximately $1,300 for thehospital auxiliary.Prizes for the year were awardedas follows: high aggregate, JaneTreleavan 19,730; high single, MaryMacIntosh 5,220; high single for the evening, Dianna May with 4,660. Speaking at the May 19 meeting of municipal council, Vodden said the municipality recorded a surplus of revenue over expenses of $72,093 for the year. The surplus came despite lower than budgeted revenue from taxation and user charges, but that was more than made up by $2,445,690 in transfer payments from senior governments, $360,000 more than the budget figure. General expenses were up by $10,000 from the 2008 budget. The municipality spent $186,000 less on capital project than had been included in the 2008 budget. Total reserves sat at $2.3 million at the end of 2008, an increase of about $59,000 from the previous year. 2008 good for Morris-Turnberry
