peacefully with his loving wife and
eldest granddaughter at his side on
May 18, 2009.
Don was a patient in University
Hospital, London at his time of
passing.
Don was born in Stratford on Sept.
30, 1930, the youngest child of
Malcolm and Nora Fraser. At a
young age he took interest in
farming. He took over the family
farm and continued to farm until his
death.
Left to mourn him is his loving
wife and companion of 54 years,
Melva (Montgomery). Also
mourning his passing are two sons
Randy and Lorna Fraser, and Blair
and Deb Fraser all of Blyth. He will
be missed dearly by six
grandchildren, Joe Fraser and
Heather Little, Kathy and Ron Abell,
Bradley, Angela, Jessica and Krista
Fraser, and three great-grandchildren
Candice and Braidon Abell and Ty
Fraser. He was the dear brother of
Iva Marshall of Brampton and
brother-in-law of Marjorie Fraser,
Brussels. He was brother-in-law as
well to Wilda and Anson Ruttan,
Treva and John Jamieson and Keith
and Marg Montgomery, all of
Wingham.
Don was predeceased by his
brothers Glenn and Doug Fraser and
one sister Myrtle Livingston.
The funeral took place at the
Schimanski Family Funeral Home
on Thursday, May 21 at 2 p.m. with
Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Fondmemories of grandpa were read byKathy Abell and dear friend
Clarence McCutcheon. Special
music was provided by Phyllis
Mitchell and Mrs. Jutzi.
Interment was in Brussels
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were two grandsons
Joe and Brad Fraser and nephews
Brian Jamieson, Paul Montgomery,
Jack Ruttan and Clayton Fraser.
Honorary pallbearers were
Clarence and Marie McCutcheon,
Bob and Helen McKague, Jim and
Leona Armstrong, Doug and Jean
Evans, Fred and Hilda Martin, Joan
van Vliet, Lois Moore and Wallace
Bell.
Flowers were carried by his four
granddaughters Kathy Abell, Angie,
Jessie and Krista Fraser.
Memorial donations may be made
to Duff’s United Church, Walton or
to the charity of one’s choice.
All funeral arrangements wereentrusted to Schimanski FamilyFuneral Home.
LLOYD SMITH
Lloyd Smith of Brussels, passed
away peacefully at Seaforth
Community Hospital, on Saturday,
May 23, 2009.
Born in Grey Twp. on March 30,
1937, Lloyd was in his 73rd year.
Lloyd was the beloved husband of
Beryl (Dadswell) Smith. He was the
dear father of Sharon and Dave
Rapson of Brussels, Kim and Bruce
Gooding of Listowel, Wayne Smith
of St. Jacobs and Joan and Tom
Warner of Brussels. He was the dear
grandfather of Becky and Andrew
Courtney, Allison and David Lisle,
Cody, Jesse and Eden Rapson,
Andrew and Reid Gooding and
Tommy Warner. Lloyd was the dear
brother of Harvey and Marion Smith
of Cranbrook, Joe and Bev Smith of
Listowel, Ross and Shirley Smith ofBrussels, Larry and Marilyn Smithof Southampton, Fred and Teuni
Smith of Brussels, Carmen and
Doreen Smith of Atwood, Glenna
Seddon of Hanover, Roger and
Donna Smith of Shallow Lake, and
Fran Gibbons of Hepworth. Lloyd is
also loved by his brothers-in-law
Harry Smith and Verne Willoughby,
and his family and friends.
His parents Allen and Mabel
Smith and his sisters Doreen
Willoughby and Grace Smith
predeceased him.
Friends were received by the
family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Monday at the Schimanski Family
Funeral Home. The funeral service
was conducted on Tuesday, May 26
at 2 p.m. from Melville Presbyterian
Church officiated by Rev. Tom
Warner and Rev. Cathrine Campbell.
Remembrances of Lloyd were
given by his daughter Joan Warner,
his son-in-law Dave Rapson and hisgranddaughter Becky Courtney.As a tribute to Lloyd, Phyllis
Mitchell performed a violin solo of
In the Sweet Bye and Bye.
Carrying floral tributes were
grandchildren Becky Courtney,
Alison Lisle, Jesse Rapson, Eden
Rapson, Andrew Gooding, Reid
Gooding and Tommy Warner.
Pallbearers were Dave Rapson,
Cody Rapson, Bruce Gooding,
Andrew Courtney, Tom Warner and
David Lisle.
Cremation followed with
interment at Brussels Cemetery at a
later date.
As an expression of sympathy,
memorial donations may be made to
the Canadian Cancer Society or the
Community Care Access Centre -
Huron County.

Joe Austin opened Bluewater
Canadian Council for the Blind at
the May meeting, having everyone
sing O’ Canada and repeating the
Lord’s Prayer.
The roll call of members was
answered telling a favourite spring
flower. The minutes were read by
Dianne Cook.
There will be a walk for the blind
but more information is pending.
The BCCB picnic is July 21 and will
be potluck.
Shirley Carter reminded all to save
grocery tapes from Zehrs and
Foodland Seaforth.
Bill Flynn gave the treasurer’s
report.
Wilda Cudmore quoted from an
article in the May 3 Sunday Star
about the CNIB’s new president
John Rafferty, entitled This man Can
See the Trees.
The story says all the other
presidents were blind.
Harold Schellert, national
president of the Canadian Council
for the Blind, criticizes the Alliance
Equality of the Blind Canadians for
the criticism of Rafferty being
sighted.
Gordon Hill explained how the
organization works and said Rafferty
has the credentials needed.
Grant Ellison entertained.
Dorothy Bolton said Grace and
lunch was served by Dianne
Stevenson and Vivianne Roy.
