Anniversary Sunday isbeing held on May 31 with specialguest speaker, Rob Gulliver ofListowel EMC. The church family picnic is also upcoming on Sunday, June 28. The entire church family is invited. The dates for the next El Salvador Missions team have been set. They to leave in January 2010. Looking good It was time for the best of the best last week at a fashion show held at Melville Presbyterian Church in Brussels. After a presentation from Solace on Turnberry about wellness and their services, Marita’s Fashion Boutique in Clinton clothed several women, including Alice Marks, left, and Olivia McHardy, and had them strut their stuff through the hall, showcasing the latest in casual, business-casual and semi-formal wear. (Shawn Loughlin photo) The May meeting of the Melville Guild and Women’s Missionary Society was held in the church parlour on Tuesday evening, May 19 with eight members present. Alice Marks opened the meeting with a reading, The Earth is the Lord’s and Everything In It. The hymn, For the Beauty of the Earth was sung. The scripture, Proverbs 31: 10-31 was read in unison. Jeanne Kirkby gave the topic, What Victoria Day is all About and Why we Celebrate it. Mrs. Marks read a poem, In Honour of Queen Victoria, followed by a responsive prayer for peace. The hymn, All Things Bright and Beautiful was sung followed by the Mizpah Benediction to close this part of the meeting. Mrs. Marks presided over the business. She read a poem, Springtime Wonder and the minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. Jeanne Kirkby gave the treasurer’s report and Leona Armstrong gave the WMS treasurer’s report. New knives and forks for the church kitchen will be purchased. The group will buy one brick and one school supply to be sent to India. It was decided to go to Camp Kintail on June 23 for the 80th anniversary celebration in place of the June meeting. The roll call was answered with everyone telling about a surprise they got on the weekend. Lunch was served by Mrs. Marks and Mrs. Kirkby. Guild,WMSmeet in parlour 308 Blyth Rd.
