Blyth Thunder was host to
Wingham for the latest U-14 soccer
match on May 21.
Wingham came out strong and
scored at the start of the game.
Blyth’s goalie, Tyler Boven, had no
choice but to come out and
challenge the ball, but Wingham
passed it away from the goalie and
shot it into the net.
Blyth would not be intimidated by
this early goal and came out strong
after a shift change. Hunter Broda
set up the ball for his teammate, Jan
Paul VanDorp who scored. Joel
Pizzati set up the play for J.P.
VanDorp to get his second goal of
the game.
Wingham scored on a rebound
shot when the Thunder’s defenders
left a Wingham forward uncovered.
Halfback Leendert VanDorp
booted the ball at the net with a long
shot and Broda was there to follow
through and tip the ball into the net.
Wingham took advantage of a
corner shot and scored to tie up the
game.
J.P. VanDorp scored on a
breakaway to break the tie and Blyth
was ahead with a score of 4-3 at
halftime.
Derek deBoer scored with an
assist earned by J.P. VanDorp.
Wingham scored two more times
to tie it.
J.P. VanDorp got a hattrick when
he scored after a breakaway.
Just as the game was winding
down, Wingham tied it again.
Blyth never gave up and took a
beautiful shot on net, but
unfortunately their keeper saved the
shot, just as the final whistle blew.
The final score was 6-6.
Blyth players put forth a good
effort throughout this game. These
teams were very evenly matched,
with each team taking turns getting a
goal. The score showed that it was
either team’s game to win, said
coaches.
The Blyth Lightning U-12 soccer

lead.

chance to tie it up with a penalty
shot. Carl Dowe made no mistake

Marshall and Leanne Plunkett.
Brussels net duties were shared by

No one said soccer was easy, as this St. Columban player
retreats with the Brussels player hot on his trail. The U-16

The Blyth U-18 girls soccer team
went up against Bayfield last week.
The girls have a full squad this year
and were ready for action.
The game started off evenly
matched, Bayfield got the first
break, and their forward chipped the
ball over Blyth's netminder, Hayley
Pavao for the score.
Blyth started to work the ball up
field a little better and was able to
capitalize. Kayla Black scored first,
by putting in Danielle Bean's
rebound. Then Bean picked up a
goal with Black assisting. Lacey
Visser scored from a nice passing
play from Alex Raynard and Erica
Eelman. Jory Uyl picked up a goal
with Black getting another assist.
Uyl then set up Johanna Vellenga
for a goal.
Late in the game Bayfield worked
the ball up field for their second
goal.
Then Heather Hill finished off the
scoring driving the ball home for
Blyth to take a solid 6-2 victory over
Bayfield.
