Former Blyth resident Erin Bolger
appeared Wednesday morning on
Breakfast Television to talk about
her new book The Happy Baker, A
Dater’s Guide to Emotional Baking.
That afternoon, Bolger was at
Chapters Festival Hall location in
Toronto for a book signing.
The Happy Baker is available at
Chapters, speciality stores and on-line
at: www.thehappybakerchick.com
Our sympathy is extended to the
family of Don Fraser of Morris
Township who passed away this past
week.
Our sympathy is also extended to
the family of Brenda Cucksey of RR
4, Wingham who passed away May
17.
We are glad to hear David Webster
is recovering at home after having
knee surgery.
Members from all the churches in
Blyth are working hard on Vacation
Bible School which will run July 27
to 31 from 9 a.m. to noon. The
theme this year is Sun Rock Kids
Camp.
A belated happy birthday to
Gladys Caldwell who celebrated her
89th on May 5 with 33 members of
her family and relatives at a dinner at
the Dinner Bell in Clinton. Gladys
enjoyed the event, reminiscing with
family.
A happy birthday to Ian Caldwell
who celebrated on May 19.
Happy Birthday to Niel Edgar of
Wingham who celebrates on May
29.
Approximately 50 Edgar relatives
(four generations) gathered at the
home farm where Don Edgar lives
today in Morris. Special guests were
Helen Stonehouse of Braemar
Retirement Home, Irlma Edgar of
Wingham and Mait and Mary Edgar
of Petrolia.
Everyone enjoyed fireworks on
Sunday night and food, of course.
Some stayed and camped on the
lawn while others went home and
returned on Monday for golf at the
Wingham Golf Club. Others went
fishing at the river at Niel Edgar’s.
The fish were not biting but the
relatives had fun. Some went to the
bush to see the flowers and hear the
birds.
We have been doing this for 60
years. We used to plant potatoes on
Monday morning and go fishing in
the afternoon but through the years it
has changed to a fun weekend.
Everyone enjoyed hot dogs and
hamburgers and all kinds of salads
and ended up with birthday cake to
help Nancy Daer celebrate her 65th
birthday. A tradition in the family is
that anyone turning 65 has to share
their pension cheque with the rest by
buying Kentucky Fried Chicken
sometime during the weekend.
BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, May 24 were Barb and
Terry Richmond. Ushering were
Terry Richmond, Elaine Chamney
and Larry Badley.
Emily Phillips, filling in for Rev.
Clark, welcomed everyone to
church.
The Sunday school is having its
awards Sunday at Camp
Menesetung at Goderich on June 7.
The children were asked to come
to the front. Emily told them that
there were two special guests at
church. She introduced two dogs
being trained to be guide dogs. She
asked every other child to close their
eyes and moved forward. This was
difficult. Then she asked the child
next to them to lead them forward
and this was a lot easier.
Bill Chalmers explained to the
children what was expected of a
seeing eye dog. He also passed out a
business card written in braille and
asked the children to feel the dots.
Deb Hakkers told the
congregation of the cabin at Camp
Menesetung that the church
supports. The UCW is buying new
mattresses for the cabin this year and
fixing the floor.
The children went downstairs to
their time of worship.
Braidon Abell carried the candle.
The choir sang the anthem, One
Little Candle.
The gospel reading was Mark 8:
22-26.
John Stewart was asked to come
forward and introduce the guest
speaker, Bill Chalmers from
Neustadt. Lab dogs are usually used
for guide dogs and poodles are used

FLUSHING NOTICE
As part of regular system
maintenance, the water department
will be conducting a hydrant and
main flushing program during the
hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from
Monday, June 1, 2009 to Friday,
June 5, 2009. This procedure could
result in the discolouration of your
water. It is recommended that all
customers check their water for rust
prior to use each day as
discolouration of laundry, etc. could
occur. Running a cold water tap
until the discolouration has cleared
is advised. Thank you for your co-
