Majestic Women’s Institute
members and guests met at the
Brussels library for a mystery tour
meeting.
Eight members and three guests
headed out to Seaforth, first stop,
lunch at the bakery. There they were
met by Ken Cardno to tour the
Cardno Music Hall.
Built in 1877 the hall is still owned
by the Cardno family. A hand-
painted curtain still hangs on stage
depicting a fisherman in a boat and a
castle in the background. Local ads
border the edges. It is a great piece
of history.
After, members headed to the
Seaforth Town Hall for a short
meeting. They went upstairs to the
museum that was opened July 1999
and houses the collections of
businesses, sports, organizations,
military and the cultural history of
Seaforth.
The next meeting is June 10 at
12:30 p.m. for a potluck lunch. This
will be held at Yvonne Knight’s
home and will be the last meeting
until September.
PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MAY 28, 2009.
Here we go again, another month
has bit the dust. Perhaps it’s the nice
weather and folks are out and about
but yes time is flying once again.
Sandra Cable is no longer a
student minister. At a celebration in
Windsor on Saturday, Sandra was
duly recognized as a designated lay
minister in the United Church of
Canada. We look forward to having
Sandra in our midst now that time is
a little more her own – at least
student assignment wise.
Howard and Joan Bernard, Glenda
Morrison, Kathy and Frank
Workman, Murray Hoover and I
attended the service where five
others were also received or
ordained. Julia Sinclair serving
Clinton United Church was ordained
at the same celebration and a large
number of her members attended.
Ralph Watson and Jim Armstrong
got safely home from San Paolo,
Brazil last Friday. Lots and lots and
lots of airplane stories, but then,
that’s what they went for and so had
a marvelous time. The Pietenpol
factory, workers and owners as well
as interesting food and people made
up for a very memorable holiday.

Bye now, Betty G.W.
On May 16 between 8 and 10 p.m.
two Brussels residents left their
home to visit with friends.
The house was locked, the lights
were on and their vehicles were in
the driveway. Despite all that,
unknown person(s) broke into the
home and stole a large quantity of
goods.
The items include: a purse, a pair
of 7" sterling silver candlesticks
stamped with an anchor, a 5" high
silver Carriage clock stamped with
three bundles of corn, a 4" high
sterling silver milk jug and 3" high
sugar bowl stamped with a leopard’s
head as well as Canadian and U.S.
currency. The value of the missing
items is estimated to be over
$15,000.
Anyone observing any suspicious
persons or vehicles in Brussels
during that timeframe are being
urged to contact the Huron OPP at 1-
800-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers 1-
800-222-TIPS(8477).

Hit the rink
The ice has melted for another year and it was time to go roller skating last Friday at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. A crowded rink of skaters spent hours circling
one another before the sun went down and the night’s feature, Bedtime Stories was shown to
the crowd. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
