The Blyth Festival Singers annual
dinner cabaret will be held at the
Stanley Complex in Varna on May
30 with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The
concert and silent auction will
follow.
The theme of the cabaret this year
is Contemporary Stylings.
The Blyth Singers will perform
numbers by Andrea Bocelli, David
Foster and Leonard Cohen, as well
as some lively favourites.
Emcee is Duncan McGregor.
Usually the Singers go father
afield to bring in guest musicians,
but this year some stellar musicians
from closer to home are headlining.
Goderich resident Mary Smith’s
contralto voice has often been
compared to Anne Murray and
alternatively, to rich dark chocolate.
But Smith’s vocal range is actually
broader than Canada’s original
songbird.
Smith is accompanied by
composer, arranger and pianist,
Agnes-Marie Henderson of
Listowel. Henderson, who arranged
and produced Smith’s last album,
Heartsong, also collaborated on the
first two CD’s, I Will Sing and The
Melody in Me.
She has been writing choral
works, songs and instrumental
music for the past eight years. She is
a published composer and has
worked on recordings of her own
original music as well as
Smith’s.
Henderson also teaches piano and
is the music director of Knox
Presbyterian Church in Listowel.
Tickets for this popular event cost
$25 for adults and children under 12
are $12.
Tickets are available from any
Blyth Festival Singer or from the
following: Westcoast Photography,
Goderich; The Dutch Store, Clinton;
The Village Bookshop, Bayfield;
Brussels Citizen Office, Snyder
Concept, Wingham; Blyth Festival
Theatre; Tasty Nu Bakery, Zurich;
Don McCaffrey, Exeter.

They’re off!
After a less than great long weekend, weather-wise, the temperatures warmed and the sun
peeked through for a great day to hold the annual track and field event at Hullett Central Public
School on Tuesday. From left: Chelsea Hoggart, Alexis Merner, Nicole Whyte and Melissa
Nolan, legged it out in the heats early in the day. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
