SELL? TRY CLASSIFIED By Reba Jefferson The Wawanosh 4-H Bush Whackers met at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, May 1 at the Wawanosh Nature Centre for camping. Upon arrival members began setting up tents. Ellen Jefferson, president, began the meeting with the pledge then roll call which asked members to do their impression of a call of the wild. Members chirped, cawed, and howled. The club was divided into three groups for a hike. They took different trails and saw different aspects of the Nature Centre and different wildlife such as deer, birds, ants and more. On returning they judged hiking areas. Some members read their opinions aloud and the group discussed why they liked certain areas or what weather is better for hiking. Senior members were to do an extra project. Ellen Jefferson and Melissa Higgins did presentations on weather sayings. Reba Jefferson did a skit on first aid and Meagan Higgins, Sophie Jefferson and Tina Drennan led campfire games. The club walked down to the campfire for s’mores. They played the senior members’ games, sang and ate. Members returned to the Nature Centre for a few games then went to sleep inside or in their tents. After a chilly night, they woke to pancakes, sausages and fruit for breakfast. They packed up their tents and played dragon’s jewel led by the junior leaders. Members were divided into groups to rotate through five different activities. At one station members worked on their book, another station they enjoyed creating structures with Lego. Members also went down to the creek to learn a little about fishing from Harry George. The other stations included a game and preparing their achievement presentation. For lunch the club had chili, hotdogs and vegetables. After lunch they cleaned up and finished packing. Members presented what they had learned at each of the meetings to the parents, learned how to get ready for a hike, to canoe safely, campfire safety, a little on orienteering and animal tracks. 4-H Bush Whackers camp out Overnight fun The Wawanosh 4-H Bush Whackers Club members spent a chilly time camping, hiking and canoeing on a recent weekend at the Nature Centre. Harry George provided some instruction on fishing down by the creek.
