The Walton Little School has had a
busy month finishing up various
projects and activities. The Stars
class learned each letter of the
alphabet and are now moving on to
colours and numbers. They really
enjoyed making the sound and sign
for each letter.
They also have been able to get
outside a little more to enjoy the
great outdoors.
The Butterfly class has had a great
time learning about farm animals
and their farm animal theme for the
month of April. Learning their
names and sounds was great fun.
They look forward to nursery
rhymes this month.
The Acorn class finished up their
Spring Has Sprung theme by
planting their very own bean seeds.
They watched them grow very
intently each day and recorded their
findings. They hope to plant them
soon in their own gardens.
They have been reviewing sight
words and continue to write daily in
their journals.
Busy time
at WLS
A belated Happy Mother’s Day to
all. I hope everyone had a nice day.
My family all gathered at the Legion
for a working Mother’s Day, except
for our middle daughter Kelly and
Adam. I put them to work helping out
at the Mother’s Day dinner.
The girls did prep work, serving
and busing tables and the men did
dishes and the carrying of heavy stuff
and putting the hall back into order at
the end of the meal. Instead of
cooking for just the 12 of our family,
we cooked for over 80. It was a nice
time working together as a family and
enjoying dinner later.
There has been a lot of sadness
around the area this week with the
passing of many long-time residents
of the community as well as relatives
of community residents.
Our condolences are sent to the
family of Eva Keffer. She had been a
resident of Huronlea for many years
and will be missed by her daughters,
Debbie and Rhonda and their
families.
Our sympathies are extended to the
family of Ruth Pipe. She has also
been a resident of Huronlea for a
while and will be missed by her
family. Ruth will be remembered by
many for her many years of being an
Avon representative in the area.
Our condolences are expressed to
Marilyn McDonald and her family on
the passing of her brother, Don
Newman. Don was the oldest in the
Newman family and will be missed
by his children and families. Don will
be remembered for his contribution
of time and energy in the North
Huron Food Share project.
Our sympathies are extended to
Orville and Lila Storey and family on
the passing of Mike Tazier, husband
of their daughter Shirley. The funeral
was held in St. Marys late last week.
An accident on Sunday evening
claimed the life of a Walton-area
woman. Louise LaPlant had been a
resident of the Walton area for about
five years and lived just outside the
village. Our condolences to her
family and good friend B.J. deJong.
Attending a concert last week were
four good friends. Patty Banks,
Gloria Wilbee, Heidi McClure and
Sandy Maaskant travelled to London
and the John Labatt Centre to hear Il
Divo. The singing group of four men
put on a fantastic concert of classic
modern music with amazing harmony
and solo vocals. The group was
discovered by American Idol judge,
Simon Cowell.
The foursome includes singers
from Spain, Switzerland, France and
America who sing in four different
languages. The girls report that the
concert was awesome.
There was a good crowd at thebuck and doe for Melissa Beuermanand J.C. Beacom at Seaforth on theweekend. Parents of the couple areWarren and Judy Beuerman, Waltonand Mr. and Mrs. Bob Beacom. There was a lineup to get in to wishGeorge and Ruth Townsend happyanniversary at the Kinburn Hall onSaturday. It was standing room only
as the happy couple greeted the many
attending. Donations for the food
bank were overflowing. The party
was a surprise by their family,
Murray, Charlene and Matt and their
families. Congratulations to George
and Ruth.
Congratulations to Brian and Kara
McNichol on the birth of a new
daughter, Brianna Lee. Brianna will
be very special to her three older
brothers, Tyler, Kalan and Louis.
Happy grandparents are Ray and
Kathy McNichol and Murray and
Sandra Pepper.
The school year is rounding around
so the school trips for the older
grades are starting. The Grade 8 class
of Seaforth Public School was off to
Camp Celtic last week for four days.
The weather could have been a little
better but the kids report having a
good time. My neighbour, Zac tells
me they had lots of fun and plenty to
do to keep busy. They went kayaking,
learned archery, played base tennis,
went swimming and even did a polar
bear dip in Georgian Bay, boy was it
cold. They made crafts for Mother’s
Day and enjoyed campfires at night.
The group returned on Friday
afternoon.
Among them were Walton-area
students Zac Fougere, Aleshia
Gagnier, Joe Cluett-Stoll, Melissa
Glanville and Brittany Pryce. They all
report a great time.
Home from Saskatchewan for a
short time were Alec and Gail
Glanville. They were home to attend
the funeral of their brother-in-law,
Mike Tazier. While home, they also
had a get-together with the Glanville
family at the home of Lorne and
Bonnie Glanville. The Glanville
brothers and sisters, except one, all
were able to attend the barbecue at
some point during the evening. Alec
and Gail returned home on Sunday.
The holiday is over for Neil
McDonald and he has returned hometo Vancouver. There managed to be afew good days to work on the landand the corn has been planted beforehis return. Cultivating is Neil’s primejob and most of the McDonald landwas worked for the first time. Neilmanaged to catch up with lots offamily members and he spentMother’s Day working with the rest
of the McDonalds at the Legion
dinner.
Great news for the pastoral charge
of Walton-Bluevale. A minister has
been found to accept the charge. He
will be attending services of the
charge on June 7, so we encourage
everyone to mark the date on the
calendar. Come out and meet the
minister and his wife.
While you have the calendar out,
mark June 14 for anniversary service
at 7 p.m. with very special music
organized for the evening service.
Celebrating Mother’s Day at
Duff’s, all women attending received
a flower. Special music was presented
by Gloria Wilbee and Patty Banks
singing, Bridge Over Troubled
Water.
We are thankful that Dave Linton
was not hurt when his tractor caught
fire last week. He was unable to put
the fire out himself, so the Blyth Fire
Department was called and
extinguished the blaze, but the tractor
was completely destroyed. The
cultivator wasn’t damaged and within
a few hours Dave was back to workwith his other tractor.Celebrating birthdays this pastweek were Scott McNaughton, DougO’Neill, Scott Baan, Brandon Blake,Colin Humphries, Kyle Stevenson,Brandon Dalton, Jim Shortreed,Jordan Thompson, Carman Bernard,Calvin Flood, Nathen Wharton,Gavin Bowers, Jim Cook, Barb Fritz,
