Grey Central Public School’s
parent council wants dirt, lots of it.
The group has embarked on a
project and are asking for local
support to help them build a
community toboganning hill by
purchasing dirt.
Council member Liz Roth said
that decision came after a survey was
distributed. “We held a firefighters’
breakfast to raise money for
playground equipment. We
distributed a survey with the hill as a
second option and the responses
showed a strong perference for that.”
The hill will be used throughout
the year by students as a play area,
but will be especially popular in the
winter for sledding. However, said
Roth, as the hills at Howick and
Elma schools, this one will be for
community use too. “We want it to
be something that everyone can
enjoy.”
To help achieve their goal now, the
council is asking for people to
contribute any way possible. We
need dumptrucks, topsoil, fill, seed
and volunteers. Anything anyone
can do to help will be appreciated.
Flyers have been distributed
throughout all of Grey, said Roth.
Donations can come in the form of
$10 to purchase a pail of dirt, $25 for
a wheelbarrow full, $50 for a bucket
or $100 for the whole load.
Tax receipts will be issued for
donations of $10 or more.
Cheques can be dropped off at the
school or mailed to Grey Central
Public School, 84925 Ethel Line,
Ethel, ON N0G 1T0.

Grey school digging for dirt

The Grey Kourteous Kids began
their recent meeting by dividing into
two groups, boys against girls. They
tried to pack a suitcase and carry-on
bag.
The leaders Barb and Monique
demonstrated the proper way as well
as some little tricks to remember
when packing.
Then they talked about using
proper etiquette on the computer, it’s
called Netiquette. They took an on-
line quiz on the computers. The
golden rule in Netiquette is to
remember there is a real person on
the other side of the computer, and
don’t say anything you wouldn’t say
to them in person.
They made an obstacle course that
they had to go through in a
wheelchair, to help them understand
how difficult it can be.
After, they paired up and one
person in the team was blindfolded
and the other guided them through
the obstacle course.
Then they all got some coins to put
in their pocket and while keeping
their eyes closed had to count out
$1.37.
This was a challenge that taught
them what it was like to have a
physical limitation and how hard that
could be.
The next meeting will be May 22
and they will be having a spaghetti
supper.
