graduating class was held on
Saturday at the Brussels Legion.
The Branch cooking crew was
lucky and had the tent up just before
the thunderstorm unleashed torrents
of water. The crew did get wet and
their feet really wet, but they got the
job done.
It was a great crowd that turned
out to support the Grade 8 class and
their venture. The students and the
parents set up the hall, prepared the
food, did the running of the fish and
fries from the fryers, did the cleanup
and had a very successful event,
even without hydro.
The only thing that had not been
completed was the coffee perks
when the hydro went out.The emergency lighting went onand all the blinds were opened to letin the light. A few safety candles
were lit and the meal went on. A call
to CKNX to let people with battery
radios know that “a candlelight fish
dinner” was still on, as well as many
phone calls were answered and the
crowd arrived. There were over 270
people present.
Congrats to the students and
parents for a job well done.
The fish fry crew that did a great
job under not-so-great conditions
included Bob Richardson and
Monica, Cam Ross and Kim, Ken
and Linda Bird, Glenn Bridge, Eric
Ross and Rick McDonald.
The Thursday night dart league
had 11 taking aim at the boards on
the second last night of the season.
The first-place team was GordJacklin, Roger McHardy andMarlene Little. In second wereSandra and Catrina Josling. The high
shots of the night were by Gord
shooting 114 and Sandra with 101.
The high start of the night was by
Greta Zehr who shot a 69.
The final night of darts will be this
Thursday night,April 30. It will be a
fun night with games, snacks and
presentations.
The Friday night supper had a
crowd of around 40 people out to
enjoy the pork chop and rice dinner.
This week will be meatloaf.
This week is the first Friday of the
month so that means the group Just
Fun will be on hand to provide some
musical entertainment for all. They
welcome anyone who wishes to sing
karaoke with them or to get up and
dance. Come out and enjoy thewonderful music provided by Don,Dale and Ron.The Cadet Corps had a nice
morning for their annual Earth Day
roadside cleanup on Saturday. They
cleaned up Cranbrook sideroad from
Brussels Road to McNabb Line and
found plenty of garbage to fill
numerous bags. They celebrated a
job well done with a barbecue at thehome of Cadet leader Paul Dawsonat lunch time.
Dedicated
The fish fry crew at Brussels Legion coped through bad
weather and a power outage to get the meal to the hungry
diners. The event was held as a fundraiser for the Brussels
Public School Grade 8 class, so students and parents were
on hand to lend a hand. Ken Bird, foreground, and Glenn
Bridge were fry cooks, while Linda Bird (hidden) assisted.

On April 23 North Huron
observed Volunteer Appreciation
Week with a celebration of its own
at Blyth Memorial Hall. Inviting the
members of close to 70 groups,
clubs and organizations with ties to
the North Huron area, the event
Celebrated the Spirit of
Volunteerism in OUR Communities.
Those in attendance were treated
to a talk by Blyth Festival artistic
director, Eric Coates.
A small reception followed where
volunteers were treated to a sample
of some of the best food available
from local vendors and caterers.
The event was hosted in part by
Wingham and District Community
Living Association, Huron Perth
Epilepsy, Midwestern Adult Day
Services, and the Blyth Festival.
The entire committee is extremely
grateful to Debbie Busby (Sweets
and Treats), The Blyth Inn, Sue
Doig (Wingham Columbus Centre)
and Scrimgeour’s Food Market for
supplying the food for the reception.
