The pamphlet was compiled by
Huron East economic development
officer Jan Hawley and lists each
organization and its mandate,
important contact numbers,
meeting schedule and location.
1. Huron Perth Healthcare
Alliance (Seaforth Hospital)
Mandate:To support appropriate
community hospital-based
healthcare needs for the catchment
area of Huron East.
Contact:Board Chair Leslie
Showers, Chief Executive Officer
Andrew Williams.
Meetings:First Thursday of each
month, excluding July and August,
at 7 p.m.
Where:Rotated among four
Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance
sites, open to the public.
2. Seaforth Hospital Local
Advisory Committee
Mandate:To provide input and
education to the Huron Perth
Healthcare Alliance Board on issues
of importance to the community
served by the hospital.
Contact:Chair Gord Rimmer,
Vice-Chair Kay Mailloux.
Meetings:Every second month;
usually third Tuesday, at noon.
Where:Seaforth Community
Hospital site, open to the public if
arranged with chair prior to the date.
3. Seaforth Community Hospital
Foundation
Mandate:To fundraise for capital
equipment, special services, updated
facilities, recruitment initiatives and
innovative programs above and
beyond day-to-day hospital
operations.
Contact:Chair Ron Lavoie, Vice-
Chair Joan Chesney.
Meetings:Every second month;
third Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Where:Seaforth Community
Hospital site. Meeting not open to
the public, except by special
invitation prior to the meeting.
Annual general meeting is held in
September, which is open to the
public.
4. Seaforth Community Hospital
Trust
Mandate:The Seaforth
Community Hospital Trust was
created in 2003 by the Seaforth
Community Hospital Board of
Directors and the Seaforth
Community Hospital Foundation to
address community concerns
regarding local control of lands and
clinic. Furthermore, in 2005, the
management responsibilities and
assets of the clinic were transferred
to the Seaforth Community Hospital
Trust from the hospital and the
family physicians. The Seaforth
Community Hospital Trust owns and
manages the lands and clinic in
support of the Seaforth Community
Hospital and users of the hospital.

There is an annual rotation between

Foundation and a Huron Perth
Healthcare Alliance board member.
Meetings:At least once every
month.

5. Seaforth Community Hospital
Auxiliary
Mandate:To provide educational
opportunities, encourage
partnerships and support healthcare
volunteers. As role models, we
promote flexibility and relevance.

6. Huron East/Seaforth
Community Development Trust
Mandate:To manage the hydro
sale fund in accordance with the
provisions of the municipal
establishing by-law; to manage the
funds to promote the health, safety,
morality, welfare and economic
development of the geographic area
known as the former Town of
Seaforth.
Contact:Chair Joe Steffler,
Directors: Jim Sills, Maureen Agar,
Bob Fisher, Luke Janmaat, Bill Teall
and Gerry Vanden Hengel.
Meetings:First Thursday of every
month at 7:30 p.m.
Where:Seaforth Post Office

7. Huron East/Brussels
Community Development Trust
Mandate:To manage the hydro

9. Huron Community Family
Health Team - Seaforth
Mandate:To provide patients in
Huron County access to primary
healthcare, health promotion
programs, illness prevention and
chronic disease management
through an interdisciplinary team
practice including five family
physicians and six allied health
professionals, a nurse practitioner,
nurse, pharmacist, social worker,
dietician and psychologist.
Contact:Dr. Devon Sanderson.
Meetings:First Monday of each
month.
Where:Huron East Health Centre.
Meeting are not open to the public.
10. Gateway Rural Health
Research Institute
Mandate:Gateway Rural Health
Research Institute is the first
community-driven rural research
centre in Canada. This innovative
concept was initiated by a group of
local residents and healthcare
professionals that recognized the
need for clinical research addressing
healthcare issues specific to rural
communities. Gateway’s head office
is currently located in the rural
community of Seaforth, Ontario and
its initial study area is the Huron,
Perth, Grey and Bruce region. The
Gateway team is led by a highly-
skilled scientific director, Claudio
Munoz MD PhD and a board of
directors from a broad range of
backgrounds. Local rural physicians
will be engaged and will benefit
from opportunities to study issues
identified in their own practices.
Gateway strives to offer excellencein research at the grassroots level.Contact: Cheryl Schultz, BusinessManager.11. HealthKickMandate:HealthKick uses a
multi-pronged approach to
encourage healthcare professionals
to live and work in rural Ontario.
Based in Seaforth, Huron County,
and co-located with the Huron
Community Family Health Team
and the Gateway Rural Research
Institute, the project has five
strategies, which include rural
healthcare exploration, rural
healthcare work placements, rural
healthcare training programs, rural
healthcare experience and
community engagement.
Objectives:Educate rural youth
about career opportunities in rural
healthcare, provide work experience
for rural youth at local healthcare
employers, improve access to skills
development and upgrading for the
rural healthcare workforce, engage
and educate the community of its
possible role in healthcare attraction
and retention to enhance the
community’s success, partner with
various academic training programs
to provide rural-centric electives and
mobilize a ‘best practices’
recruitement and retention model to
enhance rural Ontario’s quality of
life and economic viability.

and Retention

committee is to recruit and retain

13. Local Health Integration
Network
Mandate:The southwest Local
Health Integration Network is a
crown agency responsible for
planning, integrating and funding
more than 150 health service
providers, including hospitals, long-
term care homes, mental health and
addiction agencies, community
support services, community health
centres and the Southwest
Community Care Access Centre.
The Local Health Integration
Network covers an area from Lake
Erie to the Bruce Peninsula and is
home to nearly one million people.
