Some of the ladies from Belgrave
and area attended the 15th Women’s
Day Out at the Blyth Memorial
Community Hall on Saturday, April
18, sponsored by the Blyth United
Church Women. The theme this year
was, Safety First.
After registration at 9 a.m. the
ladies enjoyed coffee, juice and
muffins.
As usual there was the Toonie Sale
with many prizes to be won.
The Goderich Suzuki Violin
School entertained followed by a
warm welcome and opening
remarks.
The featured guest speaker was
Lindsay Snowe.
Annie Sparling sang many musical
numbers.
The demonstrators were
introduced. They represented Blyth
Fire Department, Huron County
Health Unit, Huron Women’s
Shelter, Huron County Emergency
Measures and the Huron OPP. The
informational speakers were
Provincial Constables, Juanita
Draper and James Stanley.
Musical entertainment was
enjoyed with the Nicholson family.
A bountiful cold meat and salad
lunch, complete with dessert and
coffee, was enjoyed. It was great to
see the men helping out again.
After lunch everyone listened to
the keynote speaker, Mary Elliott
Huyzen.
The afternoon entertainment was
supplied by John and Geneva
Heaman.
Some of the area ladies were lucky
and won either a door prize or
something from the toonie draw.
The 16th annual Women’s Day
Out will be held on April 10.
Happy belated birthday to former
Belgrave resident Helen Stonehouse
of Braemar Retirement Home in
Wingham who recently celebrated
her 92nd birthday.
The community also extends best
wishes and Happy Birthday to
Florence McArter who will be
celebrating her 80th birthday on
April 23.
The Madill boys curling team
consisting of skip Kyle Forster, vice
Ben Procter, lead Matthew Cottrill,
second Matthew Hallahan and
coach Steve McKague, curled their
way to a 3-1 record at the Ontario
Federation of School Athletic
Associations(OFSAA)championshi
ps in St. Catharines recently.
This advanced them to the
quarter-finals against Etobicoke.
The game was close as the lead
changed several times.
It came down to the last rock to
decide the game, but Madill lost a
hard-fought match and was
eliminated.
It is the farthest the boys curling
team from Madill has ever
advanced.
Jim Lamont passed away at
Seaforth Community Hospital on
Saturday, April 11.
The community extends sincere
sympathy to Jim’s wife, Irene and
families: Dale and Colleen Lamont,
Donelda and Mike Cottrill and
Shawn, Christopher and Matthew
and Dwight Lamont.
On Thursday,April 23 at 7 p.m. at
the Blyth Memorial Hall, Celebrate
Volunteers – The Spirit of Our
Community. The guest speaker is
Eric Coates.
There is no cost. All are
welcome. RSVP to Connie, 519-

A ham and scalloped potato
supper will be held on Wednesday,
April 29 at the Community Centre.
There are two sittings at 5 p.m. and
7 p.m.

Colleen Irwin and Mark
Commandant of Muskoka district
visited for a couple of days with
Colleen’s mother, Betty Irwin.

John Heaman and his friend were among the featured
performers for this year’s annual Women’s Day Out in Blyth

Wightman greeted worshippers at
Knox United Church on Sunday,
April 19 - Earth Sunday.
Rev. Tom Murray welcomed the
congregation.
The hymn-sing selections were
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Give Thanks
and I Danced in the Morning
accompanied by Elizabeth Procter.
The call to worship was read
responsively and the Prayer of the
Day was said in unison.
The Opening Prayer that the
congregation sang was Welcome
Happy Morning.
The senior choir sang, Here in the
House of the Lord, accompanied by
Elizabeth Procter.
The children went to the front of
the sanctuary for storytime, entitled
The Little Blue Top.
Rev. Murray showed them a
picture. The planet Earth keeps
spinning around and has never
stopped since, he said. God created
it, it is up to people to take care of it.
He referred to the little blue top as
being like the earth.
During the last verse of the
singing of, For the Beauty of the
Earth, the children went down to
Sunday school.
The scripture readings were Acts
2: 14a, 22-32 and I Peter: 3-9. These
were read by Dorothy Coultes.
God’s word was entitled, Heart
Over Mind Over Matter Over Body,
and it was based on John 20: 19-31.
Joyce Vincent and Megan Carter
took up the offering. This was
followed by the singing of Your
Work, O God Needs Many Hands.
Holy communion was served by
members of the session, Joyce
Vincent, Don Procter, Ken Procter,
Pat Hunking, Jim Barnes and Brian
Potter.
The closing hymn was, Rejoice
the Lord is King. The choral
blessing concluded the morning
worship service.
The flowers in the sanctuary were
placed by the Lamont family in
loving memory of Jim Lamont.
The congregation answered a
questionnaire and voted against
doing renovations to make the
church accessible. The official board
accepted the results of the
questionnaire and voted to put this
issue of accessibility on hold.

All dogs must be licensed in compliance with By-law No. 63-2004.
A copy of the complete By-law is available for review at the
Municipal Office. All dogs must be identified by means of a tag and
licence, issued for a (1) one year period by:

The fee schedule shall be as follows:
1/All Dogs (except those listed in #2)
- males, females, and spayed females $20.00 per dog
2/Pit bulls, Pit bull crosses, Staffordshire terriers $100.00 per dog
3/Kennel Licence Fee $75.00
(for a kennel of dogs that are registered or eligible for
registration under the Animal Pedigree Act)
4/Late Payment Charge $20.00 per dog
(Shall be assessed in addition to the licence fee,
if the licence and/or tag is not purchased by April 24th)
Excrement:
The By-law requires dog owners to forthwith remove excrement left by a
dog, from property other than the premises of the owner of the dog. Any
person contravening this provision is subject to a $50.00 fee.
