The glimpse of spring
weather was enjoyed by all
for the short time it was here.
A combination of farmers
completing fall harvest and
spring planting is unusual, but
that’s what’s happening.
Lawn and landscaping work
is also being completed.
Many times in spring,
farmers burn dead grass areas
to clean up fence areas, ditch
banks and such.
Unfortunately, sometimes
these fires get out of control,
when it’s very dry. The
Brussels fire department was
called out to one such fire on
Friday and Grey was called
out to the Walton landfill site
on Saturday for fires out of
control.
Caution and be prepared are
words of wisdom when
starting fires.
Welcome back to the
snowbirds. Returning from
wintering in Florida are Casey
and Betty McCutcheon, Betty
Knight, Margery Huether,
Mel and Lois McCutcheon,
Glenn and Jean Bridge and
Jack and Esther McCutcheon.
Returning a few weeks ago
were Brian and Gavin
Workman from a trip to
Chapman, Saskatchewan.
They drove there with a
couple of others to deliver
horses to a large farm. One of
the horses was grandson,
Gavin’s. Gavin tells me that
his horse, Panda, is going to
be trained for cutting cattle.
Gavin reports having a
great time, and they left some
of their travelling mates in
Saskatchewan when they
returned.
A couple of my studentstold me about their excitingEaster vacation., They went toKentucky over the longweekend. Dave Saldivar, Jodi,Zak and Rebecca went andstayed with friends there, andexplored the areas aroundBandstown andElizabethtown. They went to
an old historic jail which was
very cold.
They went to a Civil War
Museum, where they saw old
Yankee uniforms, guns,
bayonets and other interesting
things. They went to the
Corvette Museum in
Elizabethtown and thought it
was great.
They also went to the
Mammoth Caves. It was very
cold in the caves and when
leaving, it poured rain on
them. The sky turned a funny
colour, the wind came up and
it really rained and after
returning to their friends’
home, found out that tornado
warnings were out and two
tornados had been spotted in
the same area they had been.
They were glad to be home.
John Pipe is home from
hospital following some
surgery and is doing very
well. Cathy McClure is also
home from her stay in
hospital and is feeling much
better. Unfortunately, a fall
suffered by Ruth Sheill last
week has resulted in broken
bones in her hand. We hope
she is feeling better soon.

The Grey 4-H started a new
club called, Your Best Foot
Forward. It’s about etiquette.
The first meeting was at the
home of leader Tracey Swart.
The executive is Dalton
Hamilton, president; Alison
Terpstra, vice-president;
Ryan Baan, secretary; Cody
Rathwell, treasurer and Lexi
Smith, press reporter.
Members played a game to
get to know each other. After,
they read a story about using
proper etiquette and how
other countries use proper
etiquette.
Then Monique Baan taught
them how to answer and talk
on the phone and what not to
do when talking on the phone.
Members were then split
into five groups to set a
proper table. After everyone
tried, Barb Terpstra showed
them how it was done
properly.
