(Shawn Loughlin photo) Happy Easter to everyone. We hope everyone had a chance to visit with family or friends or just have a quiet time of rest and relaxation. There is always work such as raking the lawn, and that is what our family did when arriving at my mother’s for Easter dinner. We all brought rakes and with five people working together, the big lawn was done in just under an hour. Everyone really worked up an appetite for dinner. Gathering for Easter at the home of Jim and Linda McDonald was the family of Marilyn McDonald. They enjoyed a great day together and a meal and always have a fun time. Congratulations to Bruce McDonald who was quite surprised to learn he has been chosen to receive the Caring Canadian Award to be presented by the Governor General. He was nominated for his many hours of volunteering for the Diabetes Association, Lions Club and municipal development committees. The award will be presented at a later date. Congratulations Bruce.Get-well wishes to Cathy McClureas she is in Goderich hospital at timeof writing. The article last week concerningthe girls rugby trip to Wales andEngland had no names of the girls onthe trip. Returning from a week away is Lily Fincham. She was on a Great Canadian Tour to Mississippi. She travelled to Tunica and Samstown and enjoyed the cities and the casino there. The trip also went to Memphis and on a tour of Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. They enjoyed a stop on Beal Street, the home of the blues to enjoy the music. They went to the Peabody Hotel to witness the March of the Ducks. The famous ducks live in the penthouse of the hotel and every day at 5 p.m., the ducks come down the elevator and a drum major taps the beat and the ducks march to the huge beautiful fountain in the centre of the hotel foyer. They are led by the drake and follow in line keeping step. The ducks have a swim around and then on signal they one by one come out of the water, shake off, follow in-line and march back to the elevator and the penthouse. It is quite amazing, as well as quiteentertaining to see, reports Lily. There was a good crowd on handfor the buck and doe for JasonGemmel and Meagan Beuermann atSeaforth on Saturday night. You Pick Up NEWS FROM WALTON By Jo-AnnMcDonaldCall 887-6570PEOPLE AROUNDWALTON There was a large crowd attending the Easter service at Duff’s United Church, Walton to hear the word from guest speaker Bruce Whitmore. Greeting the congregation were Jeff and Shannon McGavin and family. Bruce delivered a message on What do we Remember. From Easter people remember the miracle of Jesus rising from the dead. What will they remember now, from their lifetime, he asked. He told the story of the hot-cross bun and what it represents. The hot- cross bun is round like the stone that covered Jesus’s tomb, the cross on the top is for Christ, the bread of the bun represents the body of Christ and the raisin, represents the blood of Christ. The bun reminds all of a hopping bunny tail and Easter. Bruce also amused the crowd with the joke, “What do you get when you pour hot water down a rabbit’s hole? A hot, cross bun-ny!” The choir sang Holy City. The lighting of the candles was done by Brooke and Tyler Leslie Ribey and Patty Banks. The offering was collected by Jeff McGavin and Robert Glanville. Gloria Wilbee will be the guest speaker next week.
