BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Easter Sunday, April 12, were
Joan Clark and Terry and Barb
Richmond. Ushering were Karen
Glousher, Arletta Hallahan, Terry
Richmond and Emily Phillips.
Margaret Kai was pianist.
The candles at the front of the
church were lit by one of the
children.
The choir anthem was Behold the
Lamb.
The call to worship was Jesus
Remember Me. While the
congregation sang the hymn
MacKenzie and Logan Chalmers
danced their way to the front with
the wine goblet and bread.
The first scripture reading was
Matthew 28: 2-8. This was followed
by the hymn, Rise Up King Jesus
with MacKenzie and Logan dancing
and Sadie Chalmers singing the
solo parts.Confirmation class meets Mondaynights. The hymn, Jesus Christ is RisenToday was sung while the childrencame to the front of the church fortheir story time. Rev. Clark toldthem the origins of the hot-crossbun. He gave each of the children apiece of the bun while he told the
story of how a baker decided that he
would like people to remember
Easter. The bun represented the
bread that Jesus broke. The raisin
reminds of the wine that Jesus
blessed. The cross reminds of how
Jesus died on the cross. The bun is
round and reminding us of the stone
that was rolled in front of the tomb
where Jesus’s body was laid to rest.
The spices represent those that the
women took to the grave of Jesus’s
body.
The children went downstairs for
their time of worship.
The second choir anthem was, He
Lives.
Rev. Clark’s message for the
adults was, Will You Finish Strong.
Easter means more than the
forgiving of sins, said Rev. Clark. He
told a story of a fellow named Nick
who had no arms or legs. He was a
motivational speaker.
Huron Perth Presbytery a fewyears ago wondered what wouldbecome of Blyth United Church, said Rev. Clark, but they kept tryingand finally were able to dream of thefuture. This too was an Easter story. WithGod’s help people are able to dreamagain. The next hymn was, Let Us Break
Bread Together. While the offering
was received Jessica and Grant
Sparling favoured the congregation
with a duet on their violins.
The Prayers of the People were
part of the Prayer of Thanks and
Consecration and the repeating of
The Lord’s Prayer.
Members of the confirmation class
served the congregation
communion.
The last hymn, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Give Thanks was
followed by the commissioning and
benediction. The choral blessing
was, Sent Forth by God’s
Blessing.
