At a meeting with Morris-Turnberry, Laurie, after somedeliberation, suggested that an independent traffic engineer’s study would provide an unbiased avenue to determine if the crosswalk was warrened. However, the highways department has researched the determining criteria, Laurie said, and confirmed that the crosswalk is neither required nor recommended in Belgrave. “Given this fact, we feel it is reasonable that the cost of the study would be borne 50/50 by the municipalities who are requesting the crosswalk,” public works director Dave Laurie wrote in his report. County council agreed at its April 2 meeting, supporting the committee’s recommendation to deny the request for a three-way split without comment. Call it force of habit. Palm Sunday is a happy time before Good Friday he said. It is important to savour the good things in life. Store them up for the downtimes. People need to be a community of love for each other. Sometimes when they are sad they build a wall up and it is hard to break those walls down.
