HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-04-02, Page 27Much has been said about the
brain drain in Huron County —
young people completing post-
secondary education then leaving in
droves for careers in the cities.
From time to time, however, there
are those who dig their rural roots
enough to see the opportunities
available right at home. Heather
Dietz is one of them, having just
opened a photography studio and
gallery, bearing her name on Blyth’s
main street.
“Having my own place had always
been the plan. Ever since I started
doing photography I wanted my own
studio.
A former resident of the Dublin
area, now living in Blyth, Dietz firstdisplayed her photographic talentwhile working for a summer duringcollege at The Citizen. In 2006 Dietzhad just completed Fanshawe’s two-year diploma program in appliedphotography and had been accepted
into its one-year advanced course.
She specialized in portraiture.
Since graduating, Dietz said, she
began picking up clients, many in
the Stratford to Goderich area. Then
with the building which formerly
housed Luann’s flower and gift
store, being up for sale, the dream
seemed to really be coming together,
said Dietz.
“It all just kind of fell into place.”
Heather Dietz Photography
specializes in any kind of portraiture,
from babies to weddings. She works
in studio or on location. She
describes her work as traditional
with a twist. “I try to mix tradition
with more of an edgy style.”
At the front of the store is a
viewing area so clients can come in
and watch a slide show presentation,
as well as choose the type of prints,
canvas and matte boards. There isalso a small retail section withalbums, easels and frames. As well Dietz works in a bit ofgraphic design, creating custom-made thank you cards, invitationsand business cards.
“But the main thing is for people
to come see my work; here will be a
whole gallery on display; and for
clients to meet me. “
The gallery will be open daily. As
she would prefer mininmmal
interruptions when working
directing with clients, viewing and
proofing will by appointment.
However, “drop-ins for consultations
are of course welcomed and will be
accommodated,” said Dietz.
She invites people to come and
