Critter Care on Turnberry Street, a
grooming salon for pooches and
other pets.
Souch’s affinity for animals has
been a life-long love affair, and it
only made sense when looking for a
career to turn to something dear to
her heart. She had been grooming
her own menagerie, and had been
thinking about opening a pet and
grooming centre for some time.
“The building came up for sale
and we bought it. Things just went
from there.”
Souch took courses prior to
opening shop. “It’s one thing to doyour own animals, but there weredifferent things I needed to learn todo it for a living.”In the future she also hopes tooffer training class. “I’ve always hadluck with the ones others have given
up on so it seems a natural step.”
Any pet, big or small, is welcome
to come in for some grooming.
“Some people are afraid of the
bigger dogs, but I love them,” said
Souch.
In addition to grooming services,
Critter Care also offers food for a
variety of animals from turtles and
piranhas to cats and dogs. The store
also has toys and custom-made beds
“to fit a home’s decor,” said Souch.
While the pet store side of the
business will not have animals on
purchase at this point, Souch said ifanyone is looking for a specific typeof pet she will assist them in locatingthem through various breeders. The store will eventually havedisplays for saltwater and freshwaterfish to help people make decisions in
stocking their aquariums.
“The goal for September is to have
enough animals here so that children
can come in and see how to care for
a fish, lizard or hamster,” said Souch.
“They can learn how to properly care
for it before taking it home.”
Cheryl’s Critter Care is open
Mondays to Wednesdays from 4:30 -
9 p.m., Thursdays from 9 a.m. -5
p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3
p.m.
Grooming is by appointment or by

the information.
The Thursday night dart league
had 11 taking aim at the boards. The
first-place team was Sharon
Robbins, Gord Jacklin and Roger
McHardy. In second were Sandra
Josling and Norm Dobson. The high
shots of the night were by Lawrence
Machan, shooting a 107, and Sandra
hitting 140. The high start of the
night was Catrina Josling opening
with a 71.
Friday, the Branch was the place to
be if pancakes and sausage are your
favourite. Brussels Agromart Ltd.
held its annual seed day and had
guest speakers on hand to address
fertilizer market updates and various
IP soybean products. They also
served a delicious meal of pancakes
and sausage and maple syrup.
The Friday night supper had a
slight change of the menu and the
nearly 30 diners enjoyed ham for
dinner. This week will be roast pork.
The fish fry on Saturday had a
very surprising turnout. There were
over 180 folks out to enjoy fish and
all the fixings. The Comrades
cooking were Andy Overholt, Mike
Dauphin, Murray Lowe, Rick
McDonald, Jim Brown and Lisa
Glanville. Judy Lee, Jo-Ann
McDonald and Sandra Josling kept
the rest of the food on hand.
The four Cadets who volunteered
were excellent helpers by running in
the cooked food and keeping the
dishes done and the dessert carts full.
The second big event of the
weekend was the Honours and
Awards service held Sunday
afternoon. There were over 25
Comrades on hand to witness the
afternoon of initiation, years of
service pins presented, service bars
and three special presentations.
Comrade Wanda Walker was
initiated into the Branch by
President Jo-Ann McDonald.
Service bars were presented to
Comrade Sandra Josling, secretary
bar; Comrade Jo-Ann McDonald,
honours and awards bar and
Comrade Catrina Josling, Past
Officers medal and executive bar.
There were years of service pins
presented to many Comrades and it
was a pleasure to present a 50 years
of service pin to Ordinary member
Comrade George McWhirter of
Waterloo.
Special presentations of the pin
created to celebrate the 65th
anniversary of the battle of Juno
Beach were given to Veteran
Comrades George McWhirter, Ross
Bennett and Charles Procter.
The afternoon continued with a
30-minute slide show by Tracy
McLennan on the trip to Belgium,
Holland and France she went on in
2008. The trip was called Huron
Remembers and Tracy and her
entourage visited many of the
cemeteries where Canadian soldiers
are buried. It was a wonderful
presentation and enjoyed by the
many Comrades present.
The final presentation of the
afternoon came as a complete
surprise to Comrade Sandra Josling.
Sandra has been employed at the
Branch for 20 years, as of this past
November and in appreciation of her
service to the Branch, was presented
with gifts from the Branch. President
Comrade Jo-Ann McDonald read the
address and made the presentation.
The afternoon was completed with a
lunch of soup and sandwiches.
The Cadets had a busy weekend.
On Saturday many of the Cadets
went to Stratford and participated in
range practice. One Cadet reported
having almost a perfect scoring in
the shooting skills.
The next day there were six Cadets
taken to London to participate in
tagging. They were at three different
locations and the canvas went very
well to raise funds for the Corps.
