Gibbings scored his second of the
game with helpers going to Carson
Richmond and Bailey Bos.
Richmond scored early in the third
with an assist going to Shearer.
Blyth held on to the two-goal lead
until late in the third, when Wiarton
scored two to tie it and force
overtime. Wiarton scored and won
the game just a minute into the extra
period.
After the second game both
goaltenders kept the scoresheet
blank through two periods of play.
Ethan Coultes opened the scoring
in the third assisted by Damon Allen
and Gibbings. This was Blyth’s
only goal of the game.
Wiarton scored three to win 3-1.
Blyth travelled to Wiarton for
game three on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs let Wiarton score on
the first shift of the game, but Blyth
got on the scoreboard with 31
seconds remaining in the first when
Allen scored with an assist toRichmond. The game remained tieduntil late in the second whenWiarton scored the leader thenincreased it early in the third. Blythtried to notch a goal but couldn’t get
one past the goaltender, missing the
net on a couple of great chances andhitting the post.Gibbings scored with 18 secondsleft, assisted by Ethan Coultes andShearer.The Wiarton team took the
championship.
Novices fall to Wiarton
The Blyth Midget Local League
has come out of its slump and went
on a three-game winning streak to
begin the month.
March 1 put the Bulldogs against
Drayton.
The first meeting of the two teams
ended in a 3-0 win for Drayton, but
someone let the Dogs out, and their
second meeting ended in a 4-3
victory for Blyth. Scoring were
Ryan Sjaarda, assisted by Austin
Sjaarda; Brad Greidanus,
unassisted; Mike McDowell,
assisted by Austin Sjaarda; and
Greidanus unassisted in overtime.
In the net was Tyson Sjaarda.
Next the team took on the
Milverton Drives. Once again, their
first meeting ended in a loss for
Blyth, but that did not stop the
Bulldogs from coming out strong
and winning their next match.
Scoring in the first period were
Jonathan Atkinson, assisted by John
Lecomte; Austin Sjaarda, assists by
Ryan Sjaarda and Greidanus; Jordan
Bakelaar, assisted by Matt Popp and
Atkinson; and Austin Sjaarda,
assisted by Greidanus.
In the second, Aaron Popp scored
assisted by Matt Popp and
McDowell; and McDowell, assisted
by Greidanus. In net was Alec
Lorentz.
March 15 the Dogs faced the
Wingham squad. Their last meeting
ended in a 2-2 tie, but this would not
be the case in this match.
Ten minutes into the first period,
Ryan Sjaarda, assisted by
McDowell, put the first puck into the
net.
Only one minute into the second
period, Wingham tied the score.
It didn’t take long for Blyth to
muster up three more goals,
however. The first was scored by
Lucas Cooke with assists by
McDowell and Lecomte. The
second goal was perfectly placed by
Austin Sjaarda, assisted by Matt
Popp, then Cooke scored with
assists from Lecomte and Andrew
Hess.
The Wingham squad came back
with three quick goals, but the Dogs
were not going to give up. Atkinson
scored one more with the help of
Cooke and Lecomte with 28 seconds
remaining in the period to take the
lead again.
Two minutes into the third period,
Wingham managed to put the puck
past Tyson Sjaarda leaving the game
tied once again. Then Lecomte
picked up a pass from Dana Teed
and skated the length of the ice to
score the winning goal of the game.
The winning streak continued
with a game on March 16 against
Lucknow.
Scoring first for the Dogs, two
minutes into the game was Connor
Prescott assisted by Ryan Sjaarda.
The second goal came from Austin
Sjaarda with assists by Ryan Sjaarda
and Kirby Cook.
This end-to-end action game
continued into the second period.
With the Dogs still playing strong
they were able to dig up two more
goals from Austin Sjaarda, assisted
by Lecomte, then with 1:01 left in
the second, McDowell netted one
with assists from Aaron and Matt
Popp.
The Dogs continued their attack
and just three minutes into the third
Cook found the net, assisted by
McDowell. Lucknow netted one in
the third with 4:30 left in the game.
The Dogs continued their
teamwork and it paid off with one
more goal from McDowell.
Big win
The Blyth Midget team was in Local League action over the
weekend, taking on the BCH Ice Dogs at home. The locals
jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking

Midgets enjoy winning streak
The Brussels PeeWee Reps went
to Young Canada Week.
Their first game was against
Tiverton. Brussels had a rocky start
ending the second down 2-1. The
only goal was scored by Lexi Smith,
assisted by Jordyn Sholdice.
The team regrouped and came
back to score six goals. Two were off
the stick of Logan Kellington. Other
goalscorers were Hayden TenPas,
Mitchell Kellington and Wyatt
Ducharme. Assists were by Brock
McLean, Colton Hastings, Luke
McCutcheon and Reece McArter.
Matt McNichol played a great
game.
The second game was against
Blyth.
Blyth scored two in the first and
one in the second.
Ducharme scored Brussels’ only
goal and Blyth scored three more in
the third.

action
Brussels Pre-Tykes went in their
first tournament in Seaforth.
They played Mitchell I, Mitchell
II and Dorchester.
Brussels came out strong. They
won the first two games and tied the
last one.
On the weekend they played their
parents and they put the big people
to shame.

Blyth junior broomball had an
excellent attendance for its annual
banquet and awards ceremony held
at the Blyth Community Centre on
March 18. The team award
presentations followed the meal.
Blyth has two very large co-ed
PeeWee teams for youth 11 years
old and under. The PeeWee
Dynamite winners were: most
dedicated, Megan Stute and Preston
Scott; most improved, Brooklyn
Bos and Matthew Brindley.
The PeeWee Rollers winners
were: most dedicated, Laura Souch
and Matthew Terpstra; most
improved, Candace Nivins and
Jeroen Van de Wetering.
The Bantam level is for youth
ages 12 and 13. The Bantam girls
had two most improved awards that
were earned by Kelly Austin and
Kelsey King. The Bantam boys
winners were: most improved, Jeff
Hallahan and most dedicated, Alex
Sanders.
The Midget level is for youth ages
14 and 15. The Midget girls most
improved was Emma Dale and most
dedicated Chantel Collins. The
Midget boys most improved player
was Tyler Hallahan and most
dedicated was Brent Drost.
Blyth broomball coaches were
thanked for giving their time and
talents to the youth this past season.
