The Huron-Perth Lakers Minor
Atoms finished the year on a good
note beating the Windsor Jr.
Spitfires 3-2 last weekend for the
Pavilion AAA consolation
championship.
The Spitfires were a tough team
and played aggressively in the five
games against the Lakers, but the
Lakers simply outworked them and
displayed good team defense.
The Lakers lost the first game 6-4,
tied the second game 5-5 and won
the next three games 4-2, 4-2 and the
final 3-2.
The Spitfires had over 60 minutes
in penalties with the Lakers having
54 minutes.
The Lakers played well with
all contributing to great team-
work.
In this five-game series, everyone
contributed in points.
Will Thibeault scored three goals,
Noah Kuno scored five goals with
one assist and Quinton Maddock
scored one goal with one assist.

assists, Chad Treble had one assist,

goals, Jacob Rooke scored one goal
with three assists, Cody Treble
scored two goals and Evan
Moorehead scored one goal with
one assist.
Bradley Kraemer scored one goal
with three assists, Brennan
Stapleton had one assist and Justin
Beuermann scoring the winner in
game five.

The Blyth PeeWee Local League
Bulldogs took the Young Can Wee
tournament title in Goderich this
past week.
The team’s first game was a low-
scoring contest against Lucknow.
Blyth’s Kyle Pollard sent one into
the Lucknow net on a pass from
Trystan Weber to take a one-goal
lead midway in the second. That
lone goal would be all that was
scored in this game, as goalie Dustin
Treble earned a shutout.
Blyth’s second game was against
a St. Mar’ys team. Blyth fell behind
early in the first when a high shot
beat the goalie. St. Marys increased
their lead by the end of the first. At
the end of the second Josh VanSoest
went upstairs with a high shot to
beat the St. Marys’ goaltender.
Assists went to Daymein Brak and
Curtis Raynard.
The boys came out hard to play in
the third and had the game tied up
just a minute in, when Ryan
Plunkett sent one into the net, with
helpers credited to Brak and
VanSoest. Just two minutes later the
Bulldogs took the lead as Dalton
Richmond and Dylan Bromley
teamed up to tap one in on a goal
mouth scramble.
The remaining time in the third
period was long and Blyth kept
applying the pressure. Treble made
several great saves to keep his team
in the lead. Then with less than a
minute to go and St. Marys applying
the pressure with the extra attacker,
VanSoest sealed the win with an
empty netter. Assists went to
Raynard and Plunkett, to win 4-2.
The PeeWees headed into
Saturday with determination.
The team pulled together for a
good morning victory over the
South Huron team.
South Huron scored first for their
only goal of the game.
Blyth took 10 seconds to answer
back with a goal of their own.
VanSoest and Raynard teamed up to
score. VanSoest scored his second of
the game unassisted midway
through the second. Pollard scored
with an assist going to VanSoest to
take a 3-1 lead into the third.
Pollard scored his second of the
game in the third, and Blyth took a
4-1 victory into the championship
game.
Blyth took on the second St.
Marys team.
St. Marys scored first, but just a
minute later VanSoest scored with
help from Plunkett.
The tie held until midway through
the third when VanSoest scored
again, with helpers going to
Raynard and Dallas Coultes.
St. Marys scored another late in
the third to tie the game and head to
overtime.
At just 30 seconds Raynard, with
an assist from VanSoest, scored the
goal that won the game for the Blyth
Bulldog Local League.
Excellent goaltending by Treble
kept the team in the game and the
Young Canada Week tournament.
Tough loss
The Brussels Atom Local League squad was in action over the weekend, welcoming Listowel
to the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. The locals, however, came up just short,
on the losing end of a 4-2 score. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
