Reid Button helped light the
candles at the front of the
church. The call to worship
was followed by the prayer of
approach and confession, the
assurance of pardon and the
first hymn, Holy, Holy, Holy. The
first scripture lesson was Daniel 3:
13-29.
The children came to the front
for their story time. Rev. Gary
Clark explained the scripture
reading to them, how King
Nebuchadnezzar had Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego thrown
into a fire because they would
not worship the way the King
wanted. When God protected
them from the fiery furnace
the King believed that their God
would protect them.
The children said a prayer and
sang the song Deep and Wide. Alley
Glousher carried the lit candle
downstairs for their time of
worship.
The choir sang the anthem, We are
The One.
The second scripture reading was
Numbers 13: 17-29.
Rev. Clark’s message for theadults was Are We a WelcomingChurch? Many people in today’sworld want to be like KingNebuchadnezzar and want everyone to do things their way, he said. Many are afraid they will be found out that they arenot what they seem. God doesn’t always protect from all evil
but God alone can take people
through the fiery furnaces. God
reclaims the authority for life and
death.
Many people consider Canada a
land of milk and honey, Rev. Clark
said. We can be a welcoming
country and let people live in our
country and retain their ways of
worship.
The next hymn, Be Still My Soul
was sung. The last hymn was, God
Be With You ’til We Meet Again.

The early bird
Quinton Hakkers was one of the early birds over the
weekend, swooping in to Blyth United Church for its family
night. The night included a mini-putt course that had been
set up earlier in the week for children during their March
Break and some do-it-yourself pizza-making, on which
Hakkers got a head start. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
