HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-03-26, Page 2Things are looking good. Several
days with sunshine, ebbing
snowdrifts and robins hopping about
on the lawn.
Everyone has their own signs of
spring and at the first sight, life just
gets better. Snowdrops and pussy
willows have made their way into
view. Children playing, with coats
resting on the ground and enjoying
life in shirts for the first of the
season. Next sign, the bikes are out.
Life is good. The sight of the tundra swansgives me the official word that theseasons are about to change. Theirspot on the Centre Sideroad, oopsClyde Line was busy this week. Theevening that I stopped to enjoy thistreat from nature, the water in thecornfield was the resting place towell over 200 of the magnificent
birds. Leisurely feeding, visiting,
resting and swimming was the view
from these white wonders. Their
size alone makes you stop and when
you think of the trip they are on, you
really do have to shut off the car and
ponder our small place in the
rhythms of nature.
A good day of speeches was held
in Exeter Legion on Saturday. Our
local winners competed against all
of Zone C making for a lot of talent
in one room. Good job students.
Another successful night of
fundraising for the Optimist Club
was held last Saturday. They have it
figured – excellent food, good
prizes, great company and lots of
surprises. Well done Optimists.
Don’t forget about Queen
Victoria’s visit to Brussels on
Saturday. She’ll be looking for you.
Check the ad and save Saturday
afternoon for such a treat.
Take to heart all the information
about conservation. We need to
leave this world a better place and
each person can do something. Turn
off the lights, walk, reuse things,
you know the list, now do it. Just getinto a new habit for the world. Enjoyyour days.Bye now, Betty G.W.Brussels Majestic Women’sInstitute was invited to attend theWalton WI meeting at BrendaPerry’s home March 18. There were
18 in attendance.
Guest Diane Clark from the
community food advisory group
spoke on smart shopping. She said
read labels, don’t shop when hungry,
buy local, avoid prepared foods, and
follow Canada’s Food Guide for
portion size.
The next meeting is at Leona
Armstrong’s Friday, March 27 to
plan the next year’s program. The
casserole supper is April 23. The
next UFO to be held at Edna
McLellan’s home April 7.
Mad Science!
It was time for Mad Science at the Brussels Library last week, Magnetic Mel was up from
London to guide the nearly 20 children, all on their March Break, through fun and educational
science exercises, one of which, was building a structure large enough for an adult to pass
through it with straws and jacks. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
