(Shawn Loughlin photo) Letter to the editorGrandparent praises ARC for tireless efforts THE EDITOR, February was a month of challenging weather for canvassing for the annual Heart and Stroke Campaign. Our heartfelt thanks to the many dedicated volunteers who did an awesome job in Grey, Val Pethick, Judy Lee, Keith Williamson, Steve and Kathy Blake, Stewart Steiss, Murray Hoover, Cathy Workman, Shirley Baker, Susan Cox, Marlene Fischer, Kendra Cardiff, Marjorie Struthers, Deb Campbell, Janice Bray and Carol Nicholson. The canvas in Grey raised $2,651 for the cause. We acknowledge all who generously gave to Heart and Stroke 2009. Jo-Ann McDonald Campaign Captain for Grey. THE EDITOR,When I was first approached torepresent the seniors of the BelgraveArea on their ARC committee, I wondered just what I would be getting myself into. The last time a review of schools happened, I attended their meetings, and none of the schools wanted theirs to be the one to close. After the first public meeting held in Blyth, our committee was all for supporting and possibly enlarging the vision that Turnberry Public School had presented. Manymeetings later, and much hard workand great expertise, the final draftpresentation was made to the trustees last night (Mar. 12) at the Wingham Public School. Our oldest daughter started her school education at the local Belgrave Public School, looking forward to the day she could go to the new East Wawanosh Public School. This was going to be an exciting time. Now most of our grandchildren have either graduated with manyawards, or are still attending thatschool. Our youngest is in JK and Ihope for her and her sisters, that before many years pass, they will be looking forward with the same excitement of being able to attend the North Maitland Educational Centre of Excellence. The ARC committee, and the more widely expanded Hot Stove Group, has been made up of exceptional parents and community supporters, who have worked tirelessly as one, to present to thetrustees a proposal that will be thebest for the children of these schoolareas. Now they are all in agreement that four of those five schools should close. Our objective now is to wait for the decision of the trustees and AvonMaitland School Board and we allhope their decision will be made aswell, for what is best for the children of North Huron. The tax deferral does not include taxation on the farm residences, this part of the taxation will continue to be collected over the regular four instalments. The farmland tax deferral applies to all portions of the property tax bill such as: municipal, county and education taxes. Morris-Turnberry has 1,823 properties of which approximately 879 are assessed for farmland.
