The Blyth Dynamite PeeWee
Broomball team played in the
Palmerston tournament last
weekend.
The Dynamite started off against
the Palmerston Lions. Blyth played
well from the start. The game-
winning goal was scored just as
regular time was winding down.
Kurtis Roetcisoender passed over to
Bailey Van Massenhoven, who fired
the ball into the net.
The second game was against
Mildmay Green. The Dynamite
controlled the game in the first half.
Mildmay was stronger in the second
half.
Dynamite goalie Preston Scott did
a good job to keep Mildmay off the
scoreboard and take the game into
overtime. Mildmay scored early in
the overtime period to take the win.
The Dynamite then faced the
Palmerston Tigers. Blyth had the
upper hand for most of the game but
was unable to score.
Overtime was a seesaw battle. It
wasn’t until the end of the second
overtime period, when Logan
Forbes stole the ball for a breakaway
and scored to give the Dynamite the
win.
The Dynamite finished second in
their division and faced the Blyth
Rollers in the semi-finals. The
Rollers finished first in their division
with overtime wins against Innisfil
and Mildmay Red. Both teams
played a great game.
The Dynamite scored late in the
first period to take the lead. Kaitlin
Bos and Van Massenhoven teamed
up to get the ball to Forbes to scored
for the Dynamite.
The second period was winding
down when Brennan Kolkman fired
one home for the Rollers to tie the
game.
Overtime was handled quickly.
From the faceoff, Roetcisoender
worked the ball into the Rollers end
but was stopped by the Roller
defence. The Rollers moved the ball
down ice and Laura Souch scored to
advance the Rollers to the finals.
The Blyth PeeWee Local League
Bulldogs hosted Seaforth.
Blyth knew the game would be a
tight-checking affair and it lived up
to its expectations. With plenty of
hard checks and few scoring
chances, Blyth took a one-goal lead
at the end of the first when Dalton
Richmond fired home a shot past the
Seaforth goalie. Assisting were
Trystan Weber and Kyle Pollard.
Seaforth tied it up in the second,
before Blyth’s Curtis Raynard poked
one into the net with help from Josh
VanSoest.
Less than a minute later Seaforth
scored another to take the lead.
The final score was 3-2 for
Seaforth.
The Dogs got back on track
winning two games.
The boys headed to Clinton on
Saturday to face the BCH IceDogs,
Blyth's
Weber opened the scoring late in
the first. BCH got one by goalie
Dustin Treble for the only goal in the
second period. Raynard scored with
help from Robbie Gordon, thethen
Pollard finished off the scoring with
an empty-net goal.
The Dogs hosted the Zurich
Thunder on Monday night.
After letting several chances to
score get away from them, Blyth let
Zurich take the lead.
Curtis Raynard tied it then Dalton
Richmond picked up the puck at
centre, skated in and fired a high
shot over the goalie’s shoulder to
give Blyth the lead.
Zurich answered back with two of
their own.
But Blyth settled down in the
third, taking contol of the game.
Pollard blasted one into the net, then
Weber skated out from behind the
net and scored the final goal of the
game, giving the Bulldogs a 4-3
victory.
The next game Friday night in
Zurich at 8.30 p.m.

their season, losing this one by a score of 6-4. (Vicky Bremner photo)
