Myrtle and Larry Badley of Blyth welcome with love their first great-granddaughter and Jason and Julie Badley of Morris-Turnberry welcome their first granddaughter born on Feb. 28.We are glad to hear that HelenStonehouse is back at her home in Braemar after spending a week in Wingham and DistrictHospital.Many Edgar and Elston relatives and friends in the area travelled to Petrolia on Saturday, March 7 to help celebrate Mait Edgar’s 80th birthday. Deb, Fred, Jon and Quinton Hakkers and myself visited with myaunt and uncle Verna and JohnEvans of Sarnia. We had birthdaycake with Uncle John and celebratedhis 92nd birthday which was onMarch 6, then travelled to Petrolia tocelebrate Uncle Matt’s 80thbirthday.Happy anniversary to Hubert andEdelgard Hoba who will celebrate on March 15. Happy birthday to Cathy McNichol who will celebrate on March 18. Blyth United Church Sunday school is having a mini golf for families and kids from 2 - 4 p.m. March 18 - 21 during March Break. Admission is a non-perishable item for the food bank. Everyone welcome. Friday night is pizza night. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on the second Sunday of Lent, March 8 were Myrtle Badley and Joann MacDonald. Ushering were Elaine Brown, Nancy Hakkers, Rob Mason and Myrtle Badley. Margaret Kai was organist. Confirmation class meets Monday nights. Everyone is reminded to bring in their grocery tapes from Scrimgeour’s and Zehrs and also to bring in their used stamps to give to the Bible Society for new Bibles to the United Church Women. The UCW is making pies in March and April and May 1 will be the last until the fall. Call Joann MacDonald to order at 519-523- 9274. Next Sunday there will be ham and scalloped potato lunch after the service. The proceeds are for the pew cushions. The call to worship was followed by The Prayer of Approach and Confession and the first hymn All Glory Laud and Honour. The scripture lesson was Genesis 8: 8-16. The children came to the front for their story time. Rev. Gary Clark asked them what they thought of when they saw a rainbow. He explained to them that the rainbow is a sign of God’s promise to neverflood the Earth again. The childrensaid a prayer and sang the song Deepand Wide, with the actions, thenwent downstairs for their time ofworship.The second scripture lesson wasMatthew 6: 1-18.The choir sang the anthem,Wonderful Grace of Jesus. Rev. Clark’s message to the adults was, But When You Fast. When people fast for days they will get the feeling of what a lot of people of the world feel like. This global recession is like the great flood, he said. Transition will take a long time. The church offers hope and faith that things will change in the future.
