HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-02-26, Page 24PAGE 24. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2009.A journey that began almost adecade ago ended in a celebration atSt. John’s Anglican Church, Sundayfor a Brussels woman.
Sandra Clark was ordained as a
deacon in Christ’s Holy Cahtolic
Church at a service attended by the
Right Rev. Robert F. Bonnett,
Bishop of Huron. Also present was
past St. John’s minister Rev. Tom
Wilson, as well as Clark’s family,
friends and congregants.
Stormy weather kept another
former St. John’s minister, Rev.
Nancy Beale, from being able to
attend.
As a deacon, Clark assists the
bishop and priest in public worship
and in the ministration of God’s
word and sacraments. She will carry
out other duties as assigned.
Clark explains her role as being a
“servant”. She says she will prepare
the tables for services, she will visit
the ill and shut-ins, but will not be in
charge in any way. “Everything I do
will be working with and for the
priest.”
Clark’s journey began when Rev.
Beale was her minister, about eight
or nine years ago, she said. “I guess
she saw something in me and started
nudging me towards the idea of
becoming a deacon.”
When Rev. Wilson came to
Brussels, Clark said he took it a step
further and looked into the steps that
are required to become a deacon.
“Then he really started pushing.”
Clark finally agreed, she said,
because she likes to help people and
has no interest in being in a lead role.
Her life had too taken a morespiritual turn at the same point. Shehad been studying with Bat Kol(Daughter of a Voice) in Israel beginning in 2001 and has sincevisited their several times. To become a deacon Clark tookclasses through Huron College and University of Waterloo and throughthe Anglican seminary college at theUniversity of Western Ontario. With the Brussels, Blyth,Wingham and Lucknow AnglicanChurches having now formed theParish of New Beginnings a deaconhas never been more necessary to the spiritual needs of the congregationand for the current minister Rev.Perry Chuipka. “No matter how energetic he is, hecan’t look after four charges withoutsomeone to help,” said Clark. “I amexcited to fill that role. I still can’tbelieve this is finally happening.”
Ordained
Sandra Clark of Brussels was ordained a deacon for the
Parish of New Beginnings, which includes the Anglican
Churches of Brussels, Blyth, Wingham and Lucknow. With
Clark is the Right Rev. Robert F. Bennett, Bishop of Huron.

and card party, March 11. Volunteers
are needed for set up, clean up and
baking.

The Ontario legislative assembly
has declared an Act (Bill 26) to
designate from this year forward the
third Monday in February as
Womens Institute Week.
After all the business guest
speaker Jeff Cardiff spoke on
agriculture. He is a seventh
generation farmer in Huron County.
He loves his job, gets to be his own
boss and is proud of the quality
products he produces. There is
always something new to learn, he
said.
He spoke about the increase in
farm sizes and the decrease in rural
population also how young people
are not looking at farming as a career
choice. Less than 11 per cent of
farmers are under the age of 35.
Farming has changed a lot over the
years with newer technology
increase yields both in crops and
livestock. Use of a GPS has helped
in cutting costs using less
herbicides, seed and fertilizer more
efficiently.
On the down side they are getting
about half the revenue they use to
even though production is up. Most
farmers have had to take jobs off the
farm to make ends meet.
A surprise auction was held with
proceeds towards institute work.
The next meeting is March 18 at
1:30 p.m. Majestic is invited to
attend Walton Institute meeting held
at the home of Brenda Perrie.
