Shalyn Sulkye passes for a normal
15 year-old teenager. She likes to
hang out with friends, plays soccer
and enjoys dance class, drama and
gym. Shalyn is a student at
John Diefenbaker Secondary
School in Hanover and is
considering a career as a massage
therapist.
Shalyn is the Canadian National
Champion in kickboxing, junior
division. She captured that title at
the national competition in
Burlington in late January. She
hopes to represent Canada at the
world competition in France in
September.
Shalyn has been kickboxing for
three years and trains for two hours a
day. Her father, Terry Sulkye,
teaches kickboxing and that’s how
Shalyn got involved. Shalyn is the
great - granddaughter of MarieGlousher and the daughter ofDeanna (Heffron) Sulkye. TomHeffron would be Shalyn’sgrandfather. This sounds much like the TV adfor Winners – fresh stock is arrivingdaily. In this case I’m talking aboutthe books that are being donateddaily for the benefit used book sale.Although the sale date is advertisedas Feb. 21 - 28, due to the sheervolume of books, there are ‘earlybird’ sales happening now.All proceeds will help B.J. andAnge Cullen cope in the comingmonths with the expenses incurredfor her cancer treatments. The sale atRadford’s Farm Equipment hastables of children’s books, adult hard
and soft cover books, jigsaw
puzzles, magazines, tapes and
cassettes.
Following the morning service at
Londesborough United on Sunday,
Feb. 22, there will be a pot luck
lunch. Then the church will hold its
annual meeting.
Plan now to attend and help make
decisions for the future.

A good start
The Belgrave Kinsmen didn’t want anyone to go without
over the weekend at North Huron’s Luge-a-thon hosting a
breakfast on Sunday before everyone got down to the
business of the skills competition, human curling and a tug-
of-war. Just under 400 people had breakfast served to them
over the weekend in Belgrave. Serving is Darrell Weber of
the Kinsmen and dining is Sandy Huether. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
