For some time, Heather Logan of Brussels has been running her graphic design company, h creates, from a downtown office. However, with many of her clients in the Kitchener and Cambridge area, her business has been a bit of local secret. Now, she’s trying to get the word out. Logan graduated from Conestoga College’s graphic design program, and worked in Cambridge for three years. She established a client list and did some freelance helped by word of mouth. She has designed corporate logos for The Bull and Solace on Turnberry. But it is what she has to offer on a smaller scale that should have the greatest appeal to area residents. From ads for publications and vehicle graphics to promote businesses, to stationery, brochures, wedding invitations, thank you cards, menus, favours and programs,Christmas cards and tickets,h creates will work within a budgetto design the right product for herclients. She is also currently in the processof adding web design to the service. “I am taking some courses right now and have done sites in the past.” Working with Logan begins with a consultation to go through the specifics of what the client is looking for. “They will often come in with an idea, but if not I make a suggestionand we go from there.”Logan said she likes to offer a fewoptions so clients have a choice.“Particularly with logos, becauseyou are hopefully sticking with thatforever. “ Once the design is settled, she looks after the production and printing of the product. h designs can be reached Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling 519-887-6900 or by e-mail at hcreates@ezlink. ca THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2009. Milk and milk products, such as cheese and yogurt provide the most readily available source of calcium and other bone building nutrients. Other sources include calcium-fortified beverages (soy, rice and orange juice) tofu made with calcium sulfate, salmon and sardines with bones, sesame seeds and almonds. Bok choy, kale and broccoli also provide calcium but in smaller amounts. Vitamin D is found in fluid milk, eggs, fish and fish liver oils, margarine as well as in soy and rice beverages fortified with vitamin D. Sunlight on the skin can be a major source of vitamin D but is limited in Canada from October to March and by use of sunscreens. To prevent osteoporosis women are encouraged to get enough calcium, vitamin D and protein, limit caffeine, have sodium in moderation, and keep active particularly with weight-bearing activity. Designing woman Heather Logan has done logos for businesses and many urban clients since opening her graphic design business, h creates. Now she’s concentrating on getting the word out to the local community. (Bonnie Gropp photo) Business Directory
