HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-02-05, Page 14SOUCH. In loving memory of a very
special daughter, Sherry Lynn who
passed away 16 years ago February
2, 1993.
Our life goes on without you,
But nothing is the same,
We do not hide our heartaches,
When someone speaks your name.
Our hearts will always love you,
Our tears will always fall,
’Cause living our days without you,
Is the hardest part of all.
You did so many things for us,
Your heart so kind and true,
And when we needed someone,
We could always count on you.
The special years will not return,
When our family was all together,
But the precious memories that we
hold,
Will keep you with us forever.
Rest in peace.
– Sadly missed but always
remembered with all our love, Mom
and Dad. 05-1p

Call and answer
Samantha Wisziowski of the Brussels Cadets received a
rare response letter from a Canadian soldier in Afghanistan
after sending a letter just before Christmas. Since then she
has developed a pen pal relationship with Alec, who thanked
her for her letter and all of her support. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Huron County supports its troops.
Its citizens have the bumper stickers
and the red Friday attire to prove it.
But one young lady reached a little
further and was lucky enough to
have a soldier reach back.
Samantha Wiszniowski was one
of 20 Brussels Cadets to send a
letter to a Canadian soldier stationed
in Afghanistan in mid-December
through the Brussels Legion. Of the
20, however, Wiszniowski is the
only Cadet to have received a
response.
Just before the end of 2008, on
Dec. 29, Wiszniowski received an e-
mail from a soldier named Alec,
who answered the questions she
posed to him in her original letter
and thanked her for support.
The letter read, “Hello Samantha,
Thank you for sending me a letter. It
means a lot to us when we get
support back home. Overall, things
are going well. There is no snow
here. I’ve been in the Army for four
and a half years and I’m 21 years
old. I do have family in Ottawa and
they miss me a lot. It’s very busy up
here, but it’s good to know you guys
are behind us.
Thanks for the letter Samantha.
Your friend, Alec.”
Wiszniowski was thrilled to have
received a response and she
responded to Alec last week, having
developed a pen pal relationship
now.
The Cadets were made to
understand that a response is not
typical and wasn’t to be expected.
Wiszniowski said she would like
to know more about Alec and more
about what it’s like to be in
Afghanistan, so those are some of
the topics she hopes to ask about in
the future.
