up against local Tyke teams. Blyth and Brussels competed
but didn’t worry about the score as they set a great example
and just had fun playing the game. (Vicky Bremner photo)
The Blyth PeeWee Reps are
WOAA champs!
After a resounding 7-1 victory in
the first series game against
Drayton, the Blyth PeeWee Reps
travelled to Drayton, Jan. 28 for
game two.
After a long car ride the boys
started a little sluggish and Drayton
got two past Blyth’s goalie, Dalton
Carey in the first.
The team started waking up in the
second period and got two goals of
their own. The VanWyk twins, Mike
and Matt each got a goal with assists
going to Wyatt Carey, Ryan Nesbitt
and the twins.
The boys came out to play their
style of hockey for sure in the third
as they scored five goals. Scoring
were Mike VanWyk, Dustin
Pennington and a hat-trick for Arden
Coultes. Assisting were Carey and
Spencer Stevenson with two each.
The final score was 7-2 for Blyth.
The Dogs travelled to Drayton for
game three.
The team played well from the
drop of the puck until the final
buzzer.
Pennington got the Dogs on the
scoreboard midway through the
second on an assist from Braydon
Whitfield. In the closing minutes of
the first Mike VanWyk got the
second goal assisted by Trystan
Weber.
Early into the second Mike
VanWyk got his second goal assisted
by Josh VanSoest.
Drayton was determined not to be
held off the scoreboard and slid one
by Carey in the last few minutes of
the second. But that was the one and
only goal they would get.
The Dogs played a more defensive
style game not wanting Drayton to
get too many odd man rushes and
were able to force Drayton to pull
their goalie with a minute and a half
to go. With a quick pass up the
boards from Wyatt Carey to
Stevenson who buried the puck in
the empty net with 8.4 seconds left
on the clock the Dogs had taken all
the wind out of Drayton’s sails.Down in front
It was hockey action for the Novices on Friday night as the Brussels Reps faced off against

one for the local goalie. The hosts didn’t fare well overall, however, losing 8-2. (Vicky Bremner photo)
