In game one, Brussels got behind 3-0, but came back and tied it up. Logan Kellington scored two and Delayna Smith got one. With minutes left, however, Zurich scored to make it 4-3 and won. The next game Brussels travelled to Zurich. They came up short losing in a whitewash. With Zurich now up two games in the series, Brussels travelled back to Zurich for the third game. The players knew they had to win so they came out and scored early in the first period. Wyatt Machan shot high in the corner and the goalie didn’t have a chance. Brussels held the lead until the second period but Zurich finally got one past goalie Derrick Waechter. Zurich had a few breakaways but Waechter proved his worth. Zurich managed to sneak one past eventually, then went up by two goals. The final score was 3-1 for Zurich. Brussels PeeWee Reps travelled to Tiverton. The Bulls came charging and scored within minutes. Scoring were Brock McLean with two and Wyatt Ducharme. Assists went to Luke McCutcheon and Hayden TenPas. Brussels seemed even more keen in the second. Lexi Smith and TenPas each took their turn getting on the scoreboard with Ducharme and Jordyn Sholdice assisting. McLean finished the game with two for a final score of 7-1. The next game was back in Brussels with the team pumped for another victory. H. TenPas scored the first goal with McLean assisting. Smith scored off a great pass from Mitchell Kellington. In the third period goals were scored by McLean, assisted by Ducharme, TenPas assisted by Colton Hastings and Sholdice with an assist from Smith. The final score was 5-1. Matt McNichol played very well in net for both games. Big win The Brussels PeeWee Rep team took to the ice last week in a playoff game against Tiverton, beating the visitors by a score of 5-1 in this hard-fought contest. The students made their way down to the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre to learn the finer points of curling as taught by some community leaders on the subject. The team participated in the Bruce Williams Memorial Fun Days held in Kurtzville on Jan. 16 and 17. The team’s first game was Friday night against Listowel Red Wings. They brought their A game, Joe Jacklin was in net with only one goal getting past him. Goals were scored by Wade Machan with four, Myles Johnston and Jacob Roth, each with one. Assists were by Johnston, Nic McArter, Cole Zwep, John Nesbit, Brent Alexander and Darian Fritz. The final was 6-1 for Brussels. Saturday started with a game against Wallace and a loss of 6-0. The Tykes then pulled up their socks for their final game against Woolwich Blues. After a bit of a slow start the team came back with goals scored by McArter and Machan with the assistance of Teddy Jacklin, Allison Stevenson, Zwep and Darian Fritz. The final score was 2-2. The Tykes were back on the ice for a game with Wingham Jan. 24. Wingham was ready and scored three in the first period. Brussels scored one by Darian Fritz, assisted by Dustin Fritz and Dana Dolmage. In the second period Wingham scored two more but Brussels came back with Roth scoring assisted by Machan. The final was a 5-2 victory for Wingham. Tykes play busy schedule The results of the November- December Brussels Curling Club are: first place, 55 points, Mike Alexander, Ken Jones, Ruth Bauer and Brian Warwick; second, 50 points, Murray Hoover, Dona Knight, Murray Pepper and Melinda Exel; third, 42 points, Stew Steiss, Catherine Thomet, Laurie Campbell and Reg Vinnicombe.
