strong in the first playoff game.
Blyth’s first round was against
Elma Logan. Game one, on Jan. 14
took place on home ice.
Elma Logan started the scoring off
just 20 seconds into the game. But
that would be the last time that any
shots got past Blyth’s goalie Dalton
Carey. The rest of the game was
dominated by the Dogs.
The first period had the Dogs
scoring six goals. Goals were
awarded to Trystan Weber, Dustin
Pennington,Arden Coultes with two,
Spencer Stevenson and Mike
VanWyk. Assists went to Mike
VanWyk, Stevenson with two,
Coultes with three, and Pennington
with two.
The Dogs kept the pressure on in
period two when Mike VanWyk
scored two wraparound goals with
help from Ryan Nesbitt and Matt
VanWyk. Braydon Whitfield
resembled Wayne Gretzky as he
deked several Elma Logan players to
score an unassisted shorthanded
goal. At the end of the second period
Blyth was up 9-1.
Period three added one more to
Blyth’s side of the score sheet.
Weber scored the final goal of the
game with help from Matt VanWyk
and Conner Rodger.
The PeeWees won their second
game against Elma Logan, Jan. 15
away.
The game proved to be a physical
match with a total of 28 minutes in
penalties doled out to the two teams.
Even though Blyth played several
minutes shorthanded, they managed
to control the ice. Blyth scored 14
goals throughout the game, while
Elma Logan only managed to get
one past Blyth goalie Dalton Carey
early in the third period.
Blyth’s goals were earned by Matt
VanWyk, with five, Mike VanWyk
with four, Nesbitt, Coultes,
Stevenson, Pennington and Wyatt
Carey. Assists were earned by
Pennington with two, Whitfield with
three, Matt VanWyk with five, Mike
VanWyk with five, Trystan Weber
with two, Nesbitt, Carey with three
and Stevenson.
The PeeWees won their first round
of playoffs in dominating fashion
winning their third game in Monkton
on Jan. 17.
Blyth started the scoring
approximately two minutes into the
first period and never let up until the
final buzzer when the score was 19-
1.
The scoring breakdown for each
period was seven goals in the first,
four goals in the second and eight in
the third.
Elma Logan was able to sneak one
by Carey partway through the third
to steal his shutout.
The goals were scored by
Pennington, five; Mike VanWyk,
four; Matt VanWyk, three; Coultes,
three; Wyatt Carey, two; Nesbitt and
Weber.
Blyth now moves on to play
against Drayton for the next series.

Brussels wasn't able to get on the
scoreboard and lost 2-0.
In the second game against Tara,
Brussels was down 2-0 when Noah
Terpstra scored.
Tara scored three quick ones to
win.
Jaron Thompson played great and
never gave up.
The Brussels Novices played at
home against Mount Forest.Brussels played strong in the firstperiod and was up 2-1 after goals by
Noah Terpstra and Jack Pipe.
But Mount Forest took the lead
and won the game.
Brussels played in Wingham on
the weekend.
Though missing a couple of
players Brussels was still able to
stay in the game with Pipe scoring a
hattrick. The final score was 6-3.
Jarren Thompson played well in net.

It was a great night for the Blyth PeeWee Reps Jan. 14 as
they hosted the Elma Logan team and glided their way to a
10-1 victory. This was the first game of the playoff round,
which the local team went on to win in three straight. (Vicky

The Brussels Atom Reps met
Zurich last week for the race to six
points in their first round of
playdowns.
The game started off rough as
Zurich netted one just a minute into
the game to take the lead.
Brussels held them off the rest of
the first period but was unable to
find the back of the Zurich net.
The second period started out the
same as the first. Zurich scored early
to take a 2-0 lead. Six minutes later,
they scored their third.
Then Logan Kellington won the
puck at faceoff. With the help of
Delayna Smith and Austin Johnston,
he put it in the Zurich net. Only a
minute and a half later, Smith scored
her own goal. On a roll now,
Kellington netted his second of the
game.
Zurich broke the tie and despite
their bet efforts, Brussels lost 4-3.
The team took 22 shots on net.
Goalie Derrick Waechter made 11
saves.

The Brussels PeeWee Local League team played host to the BCH squad on the weekend.

Zurich edges Atom Reps
Brussels Novicesin Paisley tourney
The Blyth PeeWee Local League
played the Zurich team in their first
meeting of the year, Sunday.
The Bulldogs let the Zurich team
get on the scoreboard first, then
responded with two goals of their
own to take the lead.
Zurich tied the game up, but Blyth
again took the lead, only to let
Zurich tie it again.
Blyth scored the final goal of the
game to finish off with a 4-3 win.
The PeeWees played Teeswater
Monday night and it was a game of
catch up as Blyth fell behind with
each Teeswater goal, then scored to
tie it up.
Teeswater opened the scoring in
the first then Kyle Pollard scored
with help from Dylan Bromley.
Teeswater scored again and Trystan
Weber, scored assisted by Dalton
Richmond.
Teeswater got its third and Weber
put away his second with assist's
going to Bromley and Mackenzie
Nesbitt.
Once again Teeswater scored and
Blyth answered back, with Weber
completing his hattrick.
The goalies took over and
stopping several chances at both
ends of the rink.
Blyth’s Dustin Treble stopped
the balance of the Teeswater
shots.
Blyth PeeWee team
beat Zurich 4-3
